(47,209 posts)Be there and stay strong with and for those you love. Find solace in supporting them as well as taking care of yourself. Take a mental health brake from the news if you need to. Treat yourself as best you can.

(2,405 posts)A good friend from a very poor country who came here as a young man, reminded me that in our life how even in our struggles, there is light somewhere, it is your job to find it or make it for yourself.
I'm here in Houston with water at my door.
Life is good.

(38,016 posts)I understand. I've been talking people off ledges for so long I've just about run out of will.
Do something normal to distract yourself. Make something. Fix something. Clean something. Do something nice for somebody.

(24,769 posts)We need you! I bet everyone here feels the same way as you some days. I am standing by as my normally emotionally level husband is going through what
I believe is clinical desperation.
You are needed and important. And loved.

(22,757 posts)right now there is so much going wrong and I cry and I scream and I worry for others
but it is wonderful to see people help each other in crisis... and about an hour ago, I picked up an SPLC booklet that included a quote...

(7,715 posts)I felt exactly like you just a few days ago.,
I watched Obama's 2004 DNC speech and videos of his victory in 2008 and 2012 on Friday night, because I was longing for better days. I started to cry and my family got me through it.
HRC lost by the smallest of margins, and it took an international illicit/illegal conspiracy to defeat her. THAT IS NOT THE USA!
Look at what's happened since Charlottesville. I am hugely gratified about America. There is an enormous number of folks like us, and a few asses (including the "President" who are off the radar. But please keep in mind that the bulk of both the USA and the rest of the world is appalled.
As Jesus, Gandhi, and all persons of goodwill say, "this too shall pass"...
Peace and Love!

(1,214 posts)My wife heard my depression about current events, and suggested that I just stop reading or viewing the news. I immediately replied, "No, I've got to know what's happening. I can't allow myself to become ignorant, or just turn away."
I take a break sometimes.
I'm personally trying to do as much positive activity as possible. A friend asked what I meant, and I said "I just want to be as good a person as possible." As a counter to the evil being shoved in our faces.

(2,154 posts)There are times when the tank is empty, nothing left, I've had all I can stands and I can't stands no more.
And we walk away. Not that we don't give a fuck so much as just not having any left to give.
That's normal. But don't despair for demten. Life goes on, other hands will take up the reigns.
And then the thing that doesn't feel possible happens: you wake up one day and discover that you have a fuck to give again. It's a rare case of autogenisis. And fucks always multiply.

(2,830 posts)Surgery to place an LVAD before which I had to be fibrillated back to life with paddles.
I'm currently recovering from getting a new heart.
I don't have a job, I don't own a car, I don't have a gf/wife, I'm deeply in debt with medical bills and student loans, and I live with my parents.
My skills are outdated, I'm tired all the time, my medications make me shaky and moody and promote weight gain, and a flu could potentially kill me.
All of that and I'd rather live during a difficult journey than die during an easy one.

(3,784 posts)Every time I turn on a radio or see an article written online with a comments section at the end, I see the endless stream of bile and hatred spewed out by RWers, and just like you, I sometimes get so frustrated by it that I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle that will never end, and I sometimes feel like giving up. That's by design. That's why the higher-ups in the Republican Party pay people to flood the phone lines and the comments sections with hatred. Because they know it's discouraging. They WANT you to feel discouraged and they WANT you to give up. Don't give them what they want.
