My Dad died two years ago, he was VERY right-wing.

So now my Mom is going to be voting without my Dad's input, and I'm trying to educate her.
I hope the facts I show her are sinking in.

(3,173 posts)You Mom may end up voting for Romney because "he has such a nice smile."

(67,190 posts)First get the camera ready and then ask her what she thinks about a guy who believes The Garden of Eden is in Missouri.
Worked on my mom.
She said she would vote for a Muslim over a Mormon.

You can see the Gateway Arch from the Garden of Eden. Don't believe me? You are definitely NOT saved.

(7,290 posts)And that makes us better than Republicans how?
Why not just tell her the truth about the two candidates, and emphasize why President Obama is the better choice for her and for the country?

(7,290 posts)But it doesn't answer the question - why not just tell the truth about the two candidates and point out why President Obama is the better choice? Why stoop to the level of Republicans and do the very same thing that we as Democrats (rightfully) criticize them for doing?

(67,190 posts)They would cut their own mothers throat to win an election and then they try pulling that kind of nonsense on us and expect it to work.

(7,290 posts)"These" people and "they"?
I think it's wrong to use religious bigotry to try to sway voters in an election. I think it's wrong when Republicans do it and I think it's wrong when we as Democrats do it.
I'm not going to apologize for expecting that as Democrats, we should hold ourselves to a higher standard than we hold Republicans. When Republicans went after Keith Ellison because he is a Muslim, we as Democrats were rightly outraged. But now it's OK to go after Mitt Romney because he's a Mormon?
There are so many things to go after Romney about that are valid - why stoop to the level of the Republicans?

(53,521 posts)This is WAR, and I don't care how slimy it is as long as it damages the GOP. We are not dealing with reasonable people.

(7,290 posts)And if that's the path that the Democratic party wants to take, so be it. But if that is the way ahead, then we should at least cut out the hypocrisy of complaining when they do it, but cheering when we do it.

(4,840 posts)Why does your Mom need anybody's input to vote? Tell her to realize who she is...she's an independent adult woman. She doesn't need some man to hold her hand and tell her how to vote. This is 2012.
Can we get some of our enlightened feminist duers to step in here?

(53,410 posts)I sure don't.

(46,337 posts)My Dad didn't *COMMAND* my Mom to have certain opinons, but what he thought did influence her. A lot.
Now she has to form her opinions entirely on her own.
It's not easy for her.
One good thing, she does trust me for political information.
So in my family, I'm the source for political facts.

(28,581 posts)Your post says this:
Woman always had man to tell her how to vote.
Man dies
Another man must step in to tell her how to vote.
From a female standpoint, your post really hits a nerve.
