it was a commercial with an 800 # to call - to support president Trump. How disgusting to capitalize on the backs of people suffering down in Texas and their relatives and friends around the country that want to know that their families and friends that live in the wake of this storm are doing alright.
Why did the Weather Channel even allow such a commercial? Again - this is really disgusting.

(13,614 posts)Cable feeds like the weather channel, CNN, CNBC, etc., all have several minutes every hour where the local carrier of the channel can insert ads they sell themselves and are seen only by that system's subscribers.

(25,270 posts)it is very distasteful to run such an ad in the middle of a crisis. Don't these advertisers think before they act?
It was uncalled for - no matter where it was placed.
I live in the Chicago area. Are you saying this might just have gone out over the air here?

(13,614 posts)Cable channels aren't broadcast over the air. They're available only on cable and satellite systems. Only the subscribers to your cable or satellite system (however you get the weather channel) would have seen the ad. If you want to complain, call your cable/satellite system, not the weather channel.

(25,270 posts)used. To me if I saw it on my TV - this ad went out over the air. Yes - I'm on a satellite system.
Either way - such an ad should not be placed on a channel that is being tuned in all over this country because Americans are concerned about their fellow Americans.
Whomever placed this ad is preying on the backs of those concerned citizens around the country and those people in the area of this crisis to obtain the latest information.
This is no time or place for politics.
I'm sure that Trump probably approved of this ad - because he likes to see his mug all over the place and hates it when he is not the center of attention.
His photo op in Texas tomorrow is testimony to that.
This ad was disgusting and had no reason to be 'telecast' (if that's a better term than 'over the air') anywhere in this country.
It is in poor taste.

(5,042 posts)The main thing is if you're going to complain, complain to the right people. TWC may have no clue about it.

(3,276 posts)and haven't seen anything like that. So you're likely right that it's a local thing.

(420 posts)when one desk person asked an on-site reporter in TX if there had been an evacuation order, then the reporter said "no" and they went back and forth saying they couldn't imagine why there wouldn't have been. Clearly putting the blame on the mayor and never a mention about the potential risks and dangers the evacuation of a large city would cause.

(25,270 posts)they made another black Mayor of a city hit by a crisis the scapegoat - Mayor Nagen.
Someone has to bear the blame - and a black Mayor is the likely candidate. How unfair. How racist.
I think the Mayor of Houston handled this perfectly and should be commended. By not issuing an evacuation of the city order - he saved countless lives. It would have been a bigger disaster if millions of citizens of Houston would have been trapped on the highways getting out of town.

(4,533 posts)I think the stations are required to run political ads at prices no higher than their lowest prices. I think that is a good idea.

(5,042 posts)Some cable providers are granted the ability to insert their own paid advertisements into national programming. You can tell because their is often a quick cut from another commercial before or after....do you have DirectTV or local cable?
