Speaking with Vanity Fairs David Drucker, conservative pollsters and GOP consultants privately admitted that they loathe President Donald Trump but are stuck with him and have no choice but to make the best of a bad situation.
Among the two dozen strategists and consultants who make a living advising GOP candidates, Drucker found few who like due Trump to his bombast and lack of discipline, with one frustrated consultant admitting, From a personal standpoint, I think this president f*cking sucks. Hes not even a Republican.
The dilemma for the consultant class is that they have to advise office-holders and potential candidates on how to shape their message when they have Trump as not only the face of the party, but as the leader of a small but rabid following.
Your heart tells you that hes bad for the country. Your head looks at polling data among Republican primary voters and sees how popular he is, explained a Republican strategist who requested anonymity. It would be malpractice not to advise clients to attach themselves to that popularity.

(5,042 posts)One thing about Trump you can say for him is he's an upfront asshole unlike sneaky bastards such as Ryan and Cruz.

(37,648 posts)So much for that excuse. Sounds to me like they're attached to the one who brought them to the dance because they're going to get money out of it, the country be damned. But they have to have a legit excuse for rubberstamping the insanity, so they came up with, "He's so popular with Republican voters." But he's not.

(54,379 posts)I will not fall for this phony buyer's remorse from them now that their man has revealed his true colors in office. he revealed his true colors during the primaries and during the election campaign. He did nothing to conceal his character. They voted for him with zeal and enthusiasm. Trump is the epitome of today's Republican. Their old guard may throw up their hands in horror, but the times they are not only a-changing, they HAVE changed, and Republicans enabled it. "Die ich rief, die Geister...." (Goethe's Sorcerer's Apprentice: "The spirits I have summoned, I know not how to be rid of them" )
Twenty years of Fox Noise, and they voluntarily watch nothing else, what did they expect? Did they think that 95% of the people who watch that channel see through the theater? For Pete's sake, they ought to know better than anyone the low level of education in our country. They are the ones who slice the budget for education and install the likes of Betsy DeVos as education secretary. We have almost two generations now of people who not only watch Fox Noise, but actually BELIEVE what they hear. Kids watch cartoons, too, but they don't expect to meet Daffy Duck in person. Republicans expect to meet Daffy Duck. In fact, they just voted him into the Oval Office.

(37,160 posts)"Two dozen strategists and consultants who make a living advising GOP candidates" loathe Trump? You guys have spent your careers paving the road that he's drag-racing on. You've spent the last quarter-century portraying Democratic presidents and candidates as incompetent radicals who were threats to the very republic and had to be brought down at any cost. Well, congrats, guys, we finally got one, and he's YOURS.
Oh, and he's definitely a Republican. Aside from the bombastic style, how much of his alleged program during the primary campaign was really all that different from the rest of the field? It's his style you don't like, that's all.
There it is, the escape hatch, the reverse unicorn, visible only to the corrupt and having a horn up its butt: the "true conservative".
The people who decided they had to purge the Republican Party of its liberal wing, who call everything they don't like "socialist". The people who'd still be grousing among each other in country clubs, fraternal orders, and Yalie-prick circle-jerks if they hadn't, those decades ago, set up a recruiting table the minute the Democrats got out of the klansman-coddling business.
He's yours, fellas, all yours. It's too late to file off the serial numbers.
