Entire Texas National Guard Activated As Harvey Deluge Continues (so where are "they"???)

http://abc13.com/gov-abbott-activates-entire-texas-national-guard/2351136/

I've been watching Houston TV feeds from KTRK, KHOU and KRIV for that last two days and I'll be damned if I have yet to see one "National Guard" unit anywhere in the coverage.

No, what I'm seeing is civilian/local PD rescues that go beyond the bounds.

Again...where the fuck IS this "National Guard" that has been activated??? Patrolling the "Bush Compound" in West Oaks???

http://www.armytimes.com/news/2017/08/28/entire-texas-national-guard-activated-in-wake-of-hurricane-harvey/

The National Guard Bureau told Army Times that as of Monday morning, there were 16 helicopters aiding in recovery efforts, including 10 UH-60 Black Hawks, four UH-72 Lakotas and two CH-47 Chinooks.

The aircraft and personnel are conducting day and night wide-area search-and-rescue missions along the Texas coast from Corpus Christi to Houston.

The New York Air National Guard has provided one C-130, three HH-60s, and two C-17s. The Coast Guard and Air National Guard provided seven fixed-wing aircraft.

Upward of 400 Humvees and high-water vehicles have also been deployed, according to Sgt. 1st Class Mike Houk, a spokesman with the Guard Bureau.

Mostly what I've seen is citizens helping people or really wretched situations.

Here's one thing that the Guard did: They went door to door in some areas outside of Houston to make sure everybody knew that the nearby river was going to crest and they should leave, then offer help if they needed to. This wasn't in Houston. No Houston camera crews went with them. That flooding in Houston stretches from south of League City up to Livingston county, across SW through Victoria and east to the border. Parts of Conroe are being evacuated, and areas in Waller County are flooded.

Firefighters and police are scarce in some areas. TV crews can't get in or don't care to get in--why would people in Houston watch wall-to-wall coverage of people in Sealy and Rosenberg and Lake Jackson when there are local people similarly affected? So all the coverage is in Houston. That's where the Guard's going.

Today didn't even see the CG doing their jobs. But like the NG, they're just going about answering calls efficiently as instructed. But while the tv cameras cover a small area, they're operating in an area hundreds of miles long and 150 miles wide.

They're not going to be prominent because of the tv reporters' filters (focus on citizen rescues), tv-reporter priorities (Houstonians want to see Houstonians) and tv-reporter access (I can't get there but all rescues look the same).

Retired Guardsman/Resrvist here. It takes time get in place once activated.

It will take a minimum 8-12 hours to get the unit assembled for most after they get the call. And that's incredibly quick. Remember not everyone in a Guard or Reserve unit lives right at the unit many are 2-3-4 hours away. Now factor in that they all have jobs, businesses, families that they must make arrangements to leave and they have to get their gear too.

So a notice to report in 8 hours is minimum for units that were not already activated.. Then they have to get loaded up and ready to go, you don't keep the vehicles loaded. Then you need orders and coordination on the movement plan to get where they are told to go.

From what I understand the remaining units were only activated yesterday. That will mean we will be seeing them roll in today.

But I have seen plenty of footage and pictures of units already at work, so I'm not sure what media sources your using that you don't see any.

It's not enough that they be doing something- they have to be keeping all these uninvolved people notified of everything up to the minute so they can know what's happening.

It's the same mentality of people demanding to know the inner workings of a police investigation that's only hours old even though they are not even involved at all.

It's all about "me, me, me" demanding they be spoon fed info about things that don't directly affect them by people with far more important things to do than stop and spoon feed them their info.

Those tan-colored trucks? Those are NG trucks. Aside from that, how would you recognize NG people? They're there. Their (note all three uses of that homophone) job may not be to be as visible as you'd like. But they're doing it.
