http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2017/08/more_than_320000_acres_burning.htmlThe largest fire, the Chetco bar fire outside Brookings, covers nearly 108,000 acres, with about 1,700 firefighters at the scene. They had feared that strong winds on Saturday would drive rapid growth but they did not materialize. The fire grew but not by much.
The fire is zero percent contained. It's destroyed six houses and 20 minor structures. Fire officials will update the public at a meeting at 6 p.m. at the Brookings-Harbor High School.
Here's an update on other major fires in Oregon: .........................

(82,849 posts)1. Air quality in much of western Oregon is lousy right now
It's not a patch on what they're going through in Houston, but people in Oregon are being told to limit their time outside, cooling centers are opening in the larger cities and towns (as global warming overtakes us, more places will have air conditioning, but much of western Oregon has historically needed air conditioning for only about five days a year, most folks just wait it out).

(195 posts)2. It is bad
It has gotten pretty bad here, our normal airflow is a north wind that clears the smoke out but that has been absent the last 3 or 4 days so eye burning smoke is what we have..

We are among the many with no air conditioning, too.

state in Vancouver WA and it is super-hazy this morning. There hasn't been much of a breeze the last few days, either.
