BY JOHN BOWDEN - 08/29/17 11:53 AM EDT
First lady Melania Trump's office on Tuesday morning fired back at reporters who criticized her attire while heading to Texas to visit the areas damaged by Hurricane Harvey, saying it is "sad" that some people are concerned about fashion during a national disaster.
Trump's communications director in a statement released to CNN ripped reporters for being "worried about her shoes" during an "active and ongoing natural disaster."

The statement from Trump's office comes after a score of media reports earlier emerged centering on the first lady's stiletto-style shoes, which the Mirror called "the most inappropriate clothes imaginable" in a headline. "The First Lady was savaged for donning aviators and a towering pair of stiletto heels as she began the journey today," the article reads.
The Daily Beast pointed out Melania Trump's "sky-high stilettos" in a headline, and mocked the first lady by suggesting she had "waterproofed" the shoes before heading off to Houston.
"To be fair, they are very good shoes. But are high stilettos really the best footwear for visiting an area that is experiencing massive flooding?" The Daily Beast asked in its article.

Amazing, that we CHOSE to have these traitors and ignoramuses, well we didnt actually but allowing filth like this to get as close as they did? NO excuse!

(32,083 posts)As was the rest of her wardrobe.
I'm sure she's mad as hell that he dragged her along the first time. Presidents generally don't drag their wives along to survey disaster damage.

(175,735 posts)Why can't she wear the clothes for the visit when she gets on the plane? Or does she have to change clothes every few hours, no matter what.
Tis a puzzlement.
And, yes, I'm sure that she was absolute thrilled to be there.

(32,083 posts)It's hard to get into the minds of people who are that warped, in order to try to understand them. I have seen the Obamas change clothes mid-flight (No, not literally), but it's always for a long flight, where they're going to wind up in another climate--like Hawaii. In December. The temperature in DC was not that much different that Austin this week.

(3,191 posts)No sane person is "worried" about her shoes, they are APPALED at her lack of social skills and compassion for people who are losing everything, including their lives.
Phentex
(16,334 posts)she is completely out of touch with reality and was more concerned about how she was going to look. Normally, I don't care what she wears but this went beyond a questionable fashion choice. This was about her lack of compassion.

(16,646 posts)It isn't surprising that she had a change of shoes on the plane.
And we just look petty even discussing this during a disaster of such proportions.

(32,083 posts)The photo of her shoes was certainly trending on Twitter during the time it took them to reach the airport from the White House, so the probably knew people were mocking her before AF1 even took off. Those shoes were probably snuck in the back door right after they landed. And, what I want to know is, which guy gave up his white shirt for her? That was a men's shirt she was wearing.

(61,608 posts)Most people understand that jobs require appropriate clothes. Melania made "disaster review" her job when she accompanied the president to Texas. She was dressed inappropriately for the job - to such a laughable extent it was impossible not to notice.
If she doesn't want to be scrutinized, she should stay out of the people's business. She can stay home.

I find it hysterically funny that Melania's White House staff accuse the media of what they and she are so obviously guilty of.
I'm sure some of her ardent supporters will be emulating that outfit for themselves.

This is a truly wonderful photo. Substitute a be-ribboned parasol for the aviator glasses, and a huge hoop skirt for the stiletto heels and we have a Southern Belle.
Melania become Melania. Look away, Dixie land.
Trump himself doesn't even look like a plantation owner however. He looks more like the overseer coming in for a look-see after the lower 400 acres have flooded.
May be appropriate, if Putin did in fact buy our country last November and put Trump in charge.
