A largely peaceful demonstration in Berkeleys Martin Luther King Civic Center Park was disrupted Sunday by black-clad antifa counterprotesters, who jumped over police barriers and chased Trump supporters, according to multiple news reports.
The antifa seem to be drawing the kind of negative publicity we dont need.

"The violent actions of people calling themselves antifa in Berkeley this weekend deserve unequivocal condemnation, and the perpetrators should be arrested and prosecuted."

(6,139 posts)Antifa should never be associated with Dem prty, they have nothing to do with it. That movement functions outside of legal system so they don't need any support. Even if you feel sympathetic to their cause, simply condemn them once and for all. Again, they don't need nor care about anyone's support; it's a movement of its own. And by the way, condemning them does not mean equating them to nazis. Antifa will never listen to politicians so don't ever count on them not showing up at neo nazi rallies.

We should drive them away and instance ourselves from them in the strongest terms.

I'm a mainstream Dem and don't agree w/the initiation of violence, but as far as Antifa (and others) actively stand and defend vulnerable groups against fascism - that is a noble cause.
Note, that the right/alt-right goes crazy about Antifa (while remaining silent on the true terrorist alt-right) because they know it is the only thing standing against them.

(16,423 posts)Just look to Europe. They looted and burned down a part of Hamburg! Organized street-warfare against cops! All in the name of protesting NATO or the G20 or whatever excuse they can come up with.
And when all was said and done, a lawyer of the Antifa said that they had burned down the wrong city-block. They should have burned down the block where rich people live.
I have noticed for a long time that DU has a tendency to ignore violence coming from the left, because the left are defined as the good guys.
That's how we end up with ignoring the violent shit the Antifa is pulling in Europe.
That's how we end up celebrating the brutal socialist dictator Gaddafi. (How bad can a brutal dictator be if he's a Socialist???)

(5,530 posts)All they want is trouble. They want to break things, steal, and attack others. 99% of the country sees that, shakes their head, and is discouraged from showing up to protest.
