Mnuchin: Debt limit should be tied to Harvey funding

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Sunday that he and President Trump believe the debt limit should be tied to Hurricane Harvey relief funding.

During an interview on "Fox News Sunday," Mnuchin was asked whether he can guarantee that disaster aid for Harvey would not be tied to a bill to raise the debt limit.

"No I can't, quite the contrary," Mnuchin said.

"The president and I believe that it should be tied to the Harvey funding, that our first priority is to make sure that the state gets money," he said. "It is critical and to do that we need to make sure we raise the debt limit."

Mnuchin said if Congress appropriates the money, but he doesn't have the ability to borrow more money and pay for it, "we're not going to be able to get that money to the state."

I don't understand why more people haven't noticed that climate change spiral we stuck in is actually growing worse in a multiplying way. I am betting it's probably going to be too late to turn it around by the time everybody gets caught up on how it works

Even as a child I always was suspicious of us humans and our ability to live with the rest of world. Guess my fears were well founded

The govt had better face the facts that that their BS "climate change in the future" and "we can deal with it later" is wrong. They must admit that it is happening NOW and we are all out of "later". They need to budget huge amounts of money and plan and build cities' infrastructure along coastal areas with climate change in mind.

You can bet those in Houston are not thinking about "climate change in the future". This stuff is very real for them right now

I have lived in the same home for thirty years. In August we had the biggest downpour from a thunder storm I have seen. In five or ten minutes we got about five inches of rain. I was also admiring the ants after it happened. The ones that didn't get drowned just got up out of their holes and went about their business. They got hundreds of millions of years of adaptations of dealing with climate.

doesn't even know what "raising the debt ceiling" does. It has nothing to do with appropriations or revenue; it is about not defaulting on previous debts.

Mnuchin has NO IDEA about funding appropriations or what the debt limit actually means.

And he's the Treasury Secretary.

I wish there WERE a god who could help us.
