I wonder how much of the "New Trump" is a function of his abysmal polling numbers

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/president_trump_job_approval-6179.html

He's an idiot but not a complete idiot and he surely knows his approval ratings are in the toilet, his protestations about fake news and wrong polls notwithstanding.

I am all for extracting as many concessions from Trump as possible but we must be vigilant in not allowing these concessions to make him more popular.

might be telling him how much everyone hates him and how to this point he's the worst president in history.

A couple of "wins" with DACA and tax cuts and he'll be back to "normal" (for him).

just wait until his base gets the word out that he has screwed them, too. They were all giddy when he was roasting Hillary alive at every opportunity while stoking the fires of bigotry and racism at the same time. Nothing was off limits and they loved it. They cheered and roared approval on command as long as he was singing their favorite tunes.

Now he has got some new best friends in an attempt to get a win and bolster sagging approval ratings. In order to accomplish that he had to kiss up to the other side. And his base won't like that one bit since the other side consists of the likes of Schumer and Pelosi.

What goes around, comes around. So they are finding out the hard way that a guy like tRump is loyal to no one. This will be a painful lesson for them and their wrath could be swift. The next few weeks ought to be very interesting as we see tRump scramble to shore up the crumbling base. He may find that winning them back isn't as easy as it was the first time around.

For a long time we have heard that there is nothing he could do to lose his base. Maybe betraying them will prove to be the deciding factor that makes them bail on him. We'll just have to wait and see. I predict more rallies and attempts to bring them back into the fold.
