"SNIP....
If war against the Republican establishment is what former White House strategist Stephen K. Bannon wants, then war is what he will get.
Deep-pocketed supporters of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and other GOP leaders have resolved to fight a protracted battle over the next year for the soul of the party in congressional primaries. Its shaping up to be McConnell, the Senate Leadership Fund and the Chamber against Bannon, said Scott Reed, the senior political strategist for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. And we will take that fight.
But the task will not be easy. Strategists from both sides of the partys divide say recent focus groups and polling have shown that the frustration within the Republican base has only grown since the 2016 election, stoked by an inability to repeal and replace President Barack Obamas health-care law. President Trump, meanwhile, has continued to cast his presidency in opposition to the current ways of Washington, which could encourage primary voters to buck the system in a way that endangers House and Senate incumbents.
Just as in 2008, the election did little to let the air out of the tires, said Steven Law, the president of the Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC allied with McConnell that plans to spend heavily on Senate primaries in support of incumbents. The raw material of the electorate is just increasingly volatile.

(19,204 posts)they'll alienate enough from each faction to make it easier for a true Democrat to beat the stuffing out of them in the mid-terms. If they can royally piss off 10% from each side enough, so that they'd stay home instead instead of voting, that would give Democrats a huge advantage.
Of course if we Democrats fall into the same trap over who the purists are etc., that would nullify any advantage gained. Soooo.....let's stop our infighting and just get along with each other, OK?
Don't forget, a lot of this supposed infighting - at least for Democrats - is Russian promoted "rat fucking" by paid provocateurs. Let's try not to get caught up in that, OK? Pals? Buddies? The object is to stay unified to prevent the fascist takeover of our country, and that's a very real threat judging from Trump's actions and in-actions since his installment as "president".

(2,771 posts)I assume they support McConnell who follows their edicts slavishly and deplorably. However, I'm not certain they want war with the Mercers.
