Turnabout: Dems say Steelman distancing herself from Romney

"Steelman, a former state treasurer and one of three major Republicans seeking the GOP nomination for the Senate in the August 7 primaries to challenge McCaskill in the fall, was interviewed on the Jim Bohannon radio show yesterday. The conversation included a recap of the controversy over McCaskill's decision to skip the Democratic convention, which she has said is standard practice for her when she's campaigning for office.

Bohannon then asked if Steelman would go to the Republican convention if she's the party's nominee.

"I'm most likely going to be in Missouri campaigning as well," Steelman said.

Steelman spokesman Patrick Tuohey played down the comment today. "We haven't made a decision," he said. "Claire McCaskill is a delegate. She has a responsibility to appear. Sarah Steelman is a private citizen. There are millions of private citizens who do not attend conventions."
