If Herr Trump gets his way, then one of the locals faces catastrophic, life-changing cuts to her child's healthcare. Still, she trusts that he's doing the right thing for the right reason, and that his heart's in the right place.

As you may have discerned, I don't shy away from a chance to be a loudmouth, which works just fine here on DU with the rest of you loudmouths, because we're all rowing in basically the same direction.

On my community's unofficial Facebook page, Trump's chumps are the vocal and overwhelming majority, so it really does create the impression that my Red-voting county is entirely composed of idiot racist fuckheads.

And I continue to post there, calling out their racist, sexist, misogynist, homophobic, transphobic and generally bigoted bullshit, because I want silent progressives to know that they aren't alone in town, even if they're understandably afraid to speak out.

What really encourages me, however, is the occasional "thank you" message I get from one of them, or a simple "like" of one of my posts from someone who doesn't otherwise chime in.

That's the lesson and the valuable reminder: we progressives are everywhere, even in the heart of RedMerica, and even if we're often drowned out by the screeching assholes as they prostrate themselves before their idiot god king.

So to any DUer in a similar community, keep up the noise. Even if you don't feel like you're having an impact, there's a good chance that you're giving hope to a silent neighbor reading from the sidelines.
