Trump vs. Bannon In 'Bama

Breitbart has made it a personal crusade to elect Roy Moore and send a lashing to the Republican establishment and President Trump.

By David Catanese, Senior Politics Writer |Sept. 20, 2017, at 6:30 p.m.

By midday Wednesday, Breitbart's homepage was carrying a dozen stories on the Alabama Senate Republican runoff, the first election of Donald Trump's presidency featuring a boiling intraparty tussle.

The headlines on the alt-right website – freshly reinvigorated by the return of former Trump chief strategist Steve Bannon – left no doubt about the stakes of Tuesday's balloting or the unforeseen battle lines that had been drawn.

Breitbart's posts were meant to stir outrage against the media ("After Declaring Bill Clinton Off Limits, CNN Targets Judge Roy Moore's Wife'), create sympathy for Roy Moore ("Roy Moore's Longtime Friend: 'Establishment Are Going Crazy Trying To Stop Him') and tar Sen. Luther Strange and his Washington allies ("Law Firm Backing Strange Set Up Sweetheart Deal For Bob Corker In Alabama Retail Development').

With Bannon back at the helm and openly supporting Moore, the hard-line former Alabama Supreme Court justice, against Trump's selection of Strange, the appointed incumbent and blessed candidate of the Washington establishment, Breitbart's mission was as clear as the crimson tide is red.

"Alabama sent Donald Trump to the White House. It all started in Alabama when Jeff Sessions joined Donald Trump at a rally in Mobile in 2015 and said, 'Welcome to my hometown.' Now Alabama has a chance to send a wake-up call back to Washington and say to President Trump, 'It's time to right the ship,'" a confidante of Bannon's told U.S. News.

In a runoff anticipating about a 12% participation rate - mostly Republicans only!

This would be the deepest, darkest Red State stickin' a shiv in Trump's back, and freeing up Republicans to do whatever they want, Twitter Tiger carries no weight - right before a possible critical vote next week?

Roy Moore is so reviled in Alabama by moderate, sensible conservatives - removed from elected office twice by Republicans - when he is the nominee, Democratic candidate Doug Jones has a better than even chance to give us a Christmas surprise that will shake the rafters of Washington like never before! Believe me!
