can they have more than one Dem Senator filibuster or can it be a series of senators? McConnell plans to hold a vote on Wed to repeal the ACA but the Congressional calendar doesn't expire until Oct.,1st (Sun.). That is four days to filibuster and expire the clock so can the Dems have a tag team to hold it up for 4 days or is one poor senator going to be drinking a lot of coffee and eating Power Bars?

republicans just cannot seem to muster even a smidgen of honor.

(15,290 posts)That's known as a "talking" filibuster, which is the original filibuster. No one can get rid of that.
The other filibuster is known as the "legislative" filibuster. No one talks, it's just announced that a bill will need a cloture vote of 60 members voting to cut off debate before the bill can advance. This is the filibuster that McConnell could get rid of.

(65,485 posts)The filibuster would still be available if there were any other bill being brought up before Oct. 1--but of course there isn't, nor would there be time to take up anything else.
