MILLIONS being poured in on TV ads by both sides.
It's wall-to-wall down here now.
Roy '10 commandments' Moore is endorsed by 0.5 guv Sarah "I quit because it didn't pay enough" Palin, Sebastian "The Smiling Nazi" Gorka, Matt "Kill Abortionists" Trewhella, Steve (words fail) Bannon, Sean "Birther" Hannity, Alan "I'm Absolutely Nuts" Keyes, Phil "I Have the Longest Duck Dynasty Beard" Robertson, Pat "God Hates Gays" Robertson (no relation? maybe?), Chuck "I Can Kick Your Ass" Norris.

(111,332 posts)so you must be tough as hell to survive there. I know they took the prize for the most poisonous talk radio across the south in 2003 when the first Roy Moore 10 Commandments Granite Penis Extender flapdoodle was at its height.
Yeah, I drove the length of the state with New Mexico plates, but they were on a battered pickup so I blended.

And an acid blocker might be better than Tums. Ranitidine is generic, OTC, and has about the fewest side effects.

There's a lot to like about it besides the politics.

(Luther is 6' 9", hence)
Luther says he and The Groper are BFFs.
He loves Donnie and Donnie loves him.
Bigly.
I think he's expecting to be invited to the White House for Thanksgiving.
I'm afraid he'll be disappointed.
Poll about last night's 'debate' gave it to Moore, 75-25.
The election will boil down to who loves Donnie the most or who loves Jesus the most.
My money is on Jesus.

(14,494 posts)Trof, when I was a kid in the Southern Baptist church in the 50s and 60s, Jews were consider completely hopeless sinners doomed to hell 'cause they didn't believe in Jesus. Of course, back then we believed Catholics were some form of alien (drinking in church and speaking in tongues, and all that), and Methodists and Presbyterians were questionable as well. Evangelicals were totally unheard of.
Now, it's only fair to explain that I was probably halfway through university before I ever met a Catholic or Jewish person. Were we isolated or what?
What a difference a half-century makes!

(31,261 posts)I am not following it, but looks like the Ten C nut is going to win the R primary.
Maybe the R can be ambushed in the General. Quietly fight it and remind people to vote on the right day. Impossible to win? I just had a local election in my town, and unknown Dem against an incumbent, well funded republican for Mayor. The funding difference was obscene in the R favor. Turnout heavier in republican areas, with record turnout, she lost by less than 900 votes. Imagine what could have happened if the Dem areas came out to vote? I think we need to learn how to fight these elections, regardless of the level down to the wire and turn the hell out.
I can promise you that there are lots of non religious freak republicans in Alabama that won't vote for Moore in the General, Dems just need to bulk up and try to steal this election.
trof
(54,256 posts)I don't think they see this race as winnable.
I do know a lot of repugs who don't like either candidate.
I keep tellin' 'em "You DO know there's another choice?"
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)Did you even read my statement on a local race? Republicans outnumber us by 25% and they VOTE in all elections. Yet, an unknown Dem came within less than 900 votes of unseating a wel funded, incumbent republican in a race where turnout in republican areas swamped turnout in Dem areas. My point was and I repeat it, there are republicans who are scared shitless of their choices after Trump with them seeing what is happening, some of those people will sit home in the general or fill the box for the Dem - but none of that matters if Dems don't vote because they expect to lose.

(54,256 posts)Because of the lack of state leadership, the Democratic party in Alabama is lethargic if not comatose.
Not a hell of a lot I can do about that.
What we're doing is forming local, grassroots clubs that operate in spite of the state organization.
We're phone banking nd working GOTV.
I don't have great hopes about the senate race, but who knows?
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)Just keep freaking fighting, get Dem voters informed and don't make a show of it. Work to have people show up and let the chips fall where they will.
BTW, given your really red state, you are better if the national party stay away and let grass roots locals fight to win the seat. She is a great politician and human being, but in red state m, republicans have made a cottage industry of tying locals to Nancy Pelosi when the national party makes an effort. Fight a local fight and fight well, you guy will get funds from people like me who want sane Dems in office instead of republicans from red states.

(2,857 posts)I'm talking to a lot of republicans though. Believe it or not, I have had a LOT of reps saying they are crossing over to our side for this on. I feel like we are in a lot better place than in past elections.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)I think the republicans that will cross over know they can likely retake the seat before we can seat a strong Dem majority in Washington DC. Unfortunately, when it comes to voting and voting strategically, they are better than us right now.
Good luck. I will send a donation to our guy on Saturday.

(12,674 posts)Maybe not in the South where the end-timers are making their little enclaves of revivalism, but in the north, there are at least some Republicans business people who want nothing to do with either.
MIL and her Spouse are Democrats, SIL and her spouse are Republicans, but they're not total wing-nuts -just the old-fashioned "want to live comfortable and not fret our minds" Republicans that would be Democrats if it weren't for all that outsider Diversity stuff they don't understand and the Socialism that cuts into profits.
