I doubt they will like the Dotard In Chief politicizing their teams any more than he would like them politicizing his property.

(11,175 posts)When the NFL adopted its current rules concerning ownership, the community-based ownership structure of the Green Bay Packers was grandfathered in. The team is owned by a publicly held nonprofit corporation with more than 300,000 shareholders. I assume that the vast majority of the shareholders are not one percenters.

(11,175 posts)And I think single payer is still several years off.
I know that in the NFL and MLB, the league must approve any change of ownership. My guess is that the NBA and NHL are the same. The leagues feel comfortable only in dealing with the traditional ownership structure.
The Packers' community-based ownership would not be permitted under current NFL rules. It was grandfathered in when the rules were adopted. My guess is that none of the major sports leagues would allow a new such structure to be established. All other teams will continue to be owned by rich individuals or by small syndicates of rich individuals.

(6,916 posts)Except for Green Bay's ownership (the city; we need more of that) and the Davis family, most likely.
Every other NFL owner is a GOP billionaire donor. (And Goodell is merely their mouthpiece. The owners hire him and he serves at their pleasure).
I am shocked that Goodell and thus the owners are condemning 27.5. This is big.
