Very scary...this is about millions of people.
What about drinking water?
What about life sustaining medicines?
Puerto Rico should be the ONLY priority right now.
North Korea can do without insults from Trump a few days. I'm sure our military leaders are on top of the situation.
I'm betting that every few minutes not spent on Puerto Rico means another death. They need attention. It can't wait. There needs to be a plan and immediate action. Right now. It sounds like FEMA is doing what they can, but we need to send a lot of military resources.

(37,160 posts)We do have a big one, and one of the things they're known for is providing electrical power in disaster areas.
But that was before Donnie.

Also our Navy is no longer a "big one". It is about the size it was before WW I. Currently 273 ships, 1916 245 ships.

I have lived in Puerto Rico and can tell you that it is an island which even in the best of times has shortages. You literally depend on shipments from the mainland. Normally it can take days and weeks to replace power transformers under the best of conditions.
The situation has been growing worse for years. This was just the coup de gras, now something has to be done.

(195 posts)there was a lady talking about her personal situation. She had a cel phone link, which is rare and fortunate. Had come to San Juan from a town about 30 miles away with her husband and two daughters. Even though she held it together really well, you could just tell by listening she was at the end of her rope. No banks, all transactions MUST be in cash, couldn't get her girls off the island, only had 20 dollars left to her name, and was depending on the Marriott corp for water, food, and charging her phone, but even the major corps are running out of diesel to power the generators. I think her name was Mimi....I wanted to just grab them all up and bring them to my house, but alas, it's not that easy.

(11,087 posts)I bet he thinks of them as foreigners and therefore not entitled to any help from the USA. Of course, they are mostly brown people, so he probably wouldn't want to help them anyway.

(11,087 posts)especially to New York City. You know he hates the idea of more brown people moving to his neighborhood. And you can't deport them as illegal immigrants because they're not. They're already United States' citizens. (That last part is sure to blow his mind.)

Like for most of us here, the day after election day was horrible. I knew it would be bad, but he has exceeded my expectations.
I keep a financial spreadsheet that helps me pay my bills. I update it every morning. One sheet in the workbook counts down the days left in his presidency and the percentage of his term that he has completed. To see that percentage go up ever so slightly every day helps keep me sane.

(18,672 posts)...but lost sleep last night because I forgot to select the drop down to have all my money go to PR. I trust the money will go where it is needed most since Pres Carter and Pres Obama are endorsing this.
I have a friend in PR and as of yet have been unable to get in contact with her. I really can't believe this is happening. I think Trump coasted on FEMA for Harvey and Irma, but you can only coast so long on another person's competence when you yourself are grossly incompetent.
