Most of us did not vote for him.

Excellent cartoons.

...time has come for linguists to invent new words specifically dedicated to Trump...

I speak 4 languages and a fair bunch of arab dialects. None is of any help to accurately describe this weird phenomenon...

I know most of you did not chose Trump.

How he won the elections is a mystery to me.

I hope I will not offend anyone, it is really not my intention. If my opinion, the way your electoral system is set is a democracy killer.

It had a meaning and a sense at its time. It was probably the best choice in relation to the context and to what was the country in the early years after the Independence.

But now it doesn't remain in phase with the evolution and the actual era.

To be fair, the Electoral College is not really a problem. Many countries have a president who has been indirectly chosen.

The problem comes from the power given to the president.

If he is chosen indirectly, the position is mostly an honorific one without any real power. Or a very little one which has almost zero impact in ruling the country. This is the way it goes in Germany or Italy.

But if the president has a real power, which is the case in the USA, on many sides, the president of the USA has a power much more extended than many other ones of countries where the president has the power to act, then, he must be elected by direct elections.

To me, it opposites the democratic principles to allow someone to engage the country's responsibility if the citizens are not allowed to specifically and directly name the one they want being represented by and who will act in their name.

It exactly what is happening to you. Forced to undergo a situation despite your wishes.

To conclude :

President with real power means direct elections.
President which function is mostly an honorific one, direct or indirect elections will work as well since it has not much impact on the country conduct.

PS : I have done my best and I hope it is not an indigestible word salad.

If so, I'll develop in the French section.

but many of his voters see a different Trump from the Trump that we see.

Trump voters see a successful businessman, we see a self-promoter whose only product is his image.

Trump voters see accomplishments, we see Trump rejecting all that Obama did.

Trump voters see the racist and the racism and vote for that, we reject Trump's racism.

It is almost as if the conservatives are speaking a different language. Or perhaps it is that the same words are heard two different ways.

Mais de rien, tout le plaisir est pour moi.

However, not sure the word "pleasure" is very appropriate when it comes to Trump...
