To me it has become the ultimate propaganda tool. It's a fantasy world where the owner is a Saint, your boss is ageat guy, and instills the myth in the poulace that if you give your all you will be well rewarded. Not to mention the phony patriotism and the cultivation of a war like mentality. I've yet to have anyone answer he question:"Why is it important who wins?". I personally think that the reason they build billion dollar stadiums is because its just too important of a tool for the ruling class to keep the proles under control. After all if they are talking about sports, they aren't paying attention tp how they are getting screwed.
I remember when professional football was a "junk sport" like po wrestling. Once they got the instant replay and Monday night it got huge. The truth is there is only about 10 minutes of actual play in a 3 hour game, The rest is replays, mindless chatter, and commercials. i grew up playing baseball, footbal and running track. At that time anyone who talked about sports all of the time would have been considered crazy. It's just another way of dumbing down the populace. I've met a lot of people who only knowledge is sports scores and players. Scary stuff to me.
