It's difficult to argue against working with him if he will sign legislation that is good for our people and our country but they should understand that are playing with fire. He will stab them in the back and use them for his own political gain at every opportunity.
Proceed with caution.

(5,737 posts)Dems are playing him like a banjo. What they have worked with him on are things that make the GOP as a whole look bad, even if it is for a short period of time, like the budget agreement from a couple of weeks ago. Hit him and back off, rinse and repeat.

(111,098 posts)On issues that would be politically difficult for them to do, they would prefer Democrats do it for them. Such as DACA. My opinion.

Like you said, if they end up doing something good for the country, I will back their play.

(42,641 posts)Congress passes legislation. And the GOP has shown zero interest in actual bi-partisan legislation.
So how would Trump sign legislation which is good when that legislation arises from a Congress that is determined to do the bidding of the 1%?

No one in our party is dumb enough to trust Trumpy or think he is working in the country's best interests.

(16,646 posts)They're not working "with" him so to speak, but just "working" him.
It's a variation of "triangulation" in which we get legislation passed that he'll sign, and the congress has a tough time not passing (since it only needs a minority GOP support) which results in the issue being "removed from the table".

(45,488 posts)Just as the lazy GOP wants to go on recess for the Holidays, they'll be trapped trying to make deals with the Democrats. Schumer and Pelosi are playing Trumpy, the GOP hasn't realized it yet.

(423 posts)Yeah, it does sound callous & selfish. So fucking what. He thinks that by working with Dems it makes him look reasonable. That couldn't be further from the truth. Pelosi and Schumer are playing him like a fiddle, and THEY SHOULD because it makes US look reasonable & willing to get things done. The reason it doesn't work for him is because his base will shit on him for it AND more sensible US conservatives & moderates will see that he's only doing it to save his own ass.
No matter what kind of compromises Pelosi & Schumer get, the moment we take back the House & Senate he WILL be impeached.

(145,291 posts)Democrats do not control either the House, the Senate or the White House and so getting anything accomplished would be a major accomplishment.
The GOP is to fractured to get anything done and this is a fine opportunity to separate trump from his base and for Democrats to get some key issues handled.
