(7,529 posts)He listed some last night with Colbert but, as someone who was involved in politics back then, there are many, many more to me - the most important of which is this blind dive into catastrophe some voters and so-called leaders are willing to take for the very worst of reasons. And your choice of of a quote is a good one because many of our current problems are based on people being completely ignorant but having the arrogance to not recognize their ignorance - again based on the most venal of reasons.

When they talked about going house to house in Hue, it reminded me so much of Iraq.
So much in the series is directly applicable today.

I appreciate the insight, since I could not see it at the time.
Am finding that my memories of that whole era are still pretty intact.

I did find it helpful when he explained where the derogatory names came from: gook, etc. Never knew that.
