But something about all sorts of hoops to jump through.

I think we will find out these were modified weapons .

I'm taking where you can buy a regular AR-15 these days for $600 a full auto will set you back $20,000+.

They are rich people's toys at this point. And ironically that's what Congress wanted them to be when they passed the law in 1934 regulating them mandating a $200 tax on them, so that only rich people and corporations like banks or the Pinkertons or strike busting corporations could have them.

I suspect it's not because he bought them coffee, then his guns were more thank likely illegal.
That's why I said in my other post, gun sales will rise.

Paris nightclub shooting: 130+ killed
Oslo, Norway: 70+ killed
Port Arthur, Australia: 35+ killed

And others.

We have more of our share here, no doubt.

We will see if this shooter’s weapon was obtained legally or illegally, or modified legally or illegally.

If he broke the law in obtaining and/or modifying the gun, no law would have stopped this. That’s just a sad fact, and I say it as someone who supports the efforts of Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly.

in coordinated terrorist attacks with clear political purposes, excepting Port Arthur which as you probably know already happened 20 years ago, after which the gun laws were changed in Australia, weapons were taken, and it's never happened again.

not to mention that mass shootings are happening almost daily in the USA plus the constant street killings and domestic violence killings. all the people that could be alive if it wasn't for guns.

But my larger point was, if this guy used an illegal weapon, obtained or modified it illegally, what law would stop this kind of thing?

Again, there’s no doubt we have a serious issue in this country. Not arguing that at all, just to be clear. There’s just much more behind this than guns and laws—we have a serious cultural problem, imo, and at least some of it has to do with how we handle mental health issues. A lot more to it, of course.
