Because of NRA influence, we've decided to live in a country awash with weapons

The hotels and other public places may have to install metal detectors at entrances now.

We may as well get used to it. The Second Amendment is untouchable.

There will be no change in that so get ready for metal detectors everywhere.

A couple of big suitcases would be enough. Guns come apart; you can usually break a rifle or shotgun down into pieces less than 2½ feet long. Ten barrels, ten stocks, and ammo.

Total weight would be in excess of 100 pounds.

Anything less is regulated by the ATF as a title 2 firearm, which requires an FFL and other legal hurdles to own / jump through.

The barrel is the longest fixed length part of the rifle, and everything else can be broken down into smaller parts.

In fact, I once checked into a hotel WITH TWO OBVIOUS gun cases. Nobody said shit because:
a) When you check in, you rarely have all your luggage with you. It's still in the car.
b) the key cards lets you in any door. Most drive to the entrance nearest their room and then bring in the luggage.

From what I've seen of mental illness and looking at the average spree killer (Unbelievable to say there is an 'average' spree killer BTW), they don't seem that separated from reality... if at all.

It's depression and suicidal intent that is coupled with rage at society (for various personal reasons) and the person decides to take it out on others (Society) before they commit suicide. This is a major reason why mental illness checks don't stop this - depression and anger are common in US society and even then, some will only take their own lives.
