(30,151 posts)Hotels have a number of entrances your room card gets you in from parking garage, etc.,
It's not like he pushed a cart with all the guns on top and boxes of ammo and asked for assistance with his bags

(3,299 posts)Those hotels are nuts with people bringing
stuff in and out. Would not be hard at all.

(92 posts)I have been involved with sneaking entire kegs from the parking lot through the lobby and up to the higher floors. There's no reason why a man with a heavy duffel bag would stand out in a hotel.

Other than yourself, who inserted that premise into the discussion?
Oh, I get it... Reductio ad absurdum when nothing else of substance comes to mind. Monday's are great days for logical fallacies.
Carry on. Eye-roll, indeed.

(7,531 posts)These hotels are multi-building complexes. He never had to go past the desk again.
If he had them in some long bags...he could have been a photographer with tripods and recording equipment.
We stayed across the street at the Luxor a few years ago, after a two-week snowboarding trip in Tahoe. No car, we were just staying for one day, then flying out -- so we had all of our gear with us. Snowboard bags, ski bags, bags and bags and bags, and hard cases, too. No one ever looked twice at us. Could have been anything in those bags.

(53,871 posts)Because of NRA influence, we've decided to live in a country awash with weapons
The hotels and other public places may have to install metal detectors at entrances now.
We may as well get used to it. The Second Amendment is untouchable.
There will be no change in that so get ready for metal detectors everywhere.

Edit: Do we even know wha type of rifles were used?
ChoppinBroccoli
(3,784 posts)..........and more importantly, hear the audio, it's clear that the weapon was fully automatic. Probably an assault rifle of some kind.
EL34x4
(2,003 posts)That was a long burst of automatic fire, even taking into account the echo.
If you have money to spend, it's not hard to acquire this kind of weaponry in Nevada.

(2,068 posts)Doubt he walking in with all the guns on display. Long guns can be broken down and who even looks at a guests in busy lobby with a luggage cart crammed with duffel bags and luggage.
meadowlark5
(2,795 posts)Those hotels are so busy, people have all types of luggage. We stayed at the MGM on our way to California when my kids were little, you should have seen all the crap we hauled up to our room. Things in bags and stuff sacks along with suitcases.
I'm sure the guy was careful enough to make sure no one would be able to easily see it was an arsenal of guns and ammo.

(49,445 posts)A couple of big suitcases would be enough. Guns come apart; you can usually break a rifle or shotgun down into pieces less than 2½ feet long. Ten barrels, ten stocks, and ammo.
Total weight would be in excess of 100 pounds.
linuxman
(2,337 posts)Calista241
(5,586 posts)Anything less is regulated by the ATF as a title 2 firearm, which requires an FFL and other legal hurdles to own / jump through.
The barrel is the longest fixed length part of the rifle, and everything else can be broken down into smaller parts.

(2,003 posts)Leave your dirty towels and linens outside your door and they'll give you clean ones at the desk. One can spend a long time in a hotel room without being bothered by anyone.
JoeStuckInOH
(544 posts)Even on trips lasting more than a week. I don't want people in my room when I'm not there with my things. Period.
If I need more towels or linens or anything I call the desk and ask and service my living space myself.

(2,795 posts)That many guns and ammo. I suppose he could have just left it all in the bags he brought them into the hotel.

(16,201 posts)Especially modern military style rifles - they are shorter than hunting rifles.
Retrograde
(10,158 posts)Many hotel rooms - especially in higher-priced hotels - have closets with doors that the housekeeping staff is unlikely to open. Or drawers. Or he could have just left everything in his bags. The housekeeping staff don't usually have the time to go around poking in closets and drawers.

(544 posts)In fact, I once checked into a hotel WITH TWO OBVIOUS gun cases. Nobody said shit because:
a) When you check in, you rarely have all your luggage with you. It's still in the car.
b) the key cards lets you in any door. Most drive to the entrance nearest their room and then bring in the luggage.

(12,051 posts)knows that damn near anything can be carried up to a room. Tubas, violins, skis, gun cases, rappelling equipment, camera tripods and huge camera cases, you name it. And you can make tons of trips back and forth from the car to the room as many times as you want.
Lots of folks haven't navigated the real world very much.

(35,091 posts)These people shoot people with guns, and not bananas or hair dryers, guns they make an effort to hide before the shooting, and they try to kill themselves at the end, I have yet to hear of a mass shooter who is shocked that he's not being given a parade and proclaimed the leader of the free world for his actions.
From what I've seen of mental illness and looking at the average spree killer (Unbelievable to say there is an 'average' spree killer BTW), they don't seem that separated from reality... if at all.
NutmegYankee
(16,201 posts)It's depression and suicidal intent that is coupled with rage at society (for various personal reasons) and the person decides to take it out on others (Society) before they commit suicide. This is a major reason why mental illness checks don't stop this - depression and anger are common in US society and even then, some will only take their own lives.
