I know, I know that sounds really harsh. Unfortunately, I actually believe it. I firmly believe he is such a sociopath that the "good" he will find in the shootings is that it takes heat off of him.

(146,331 posts)By the time this new story has died down, Puerto Rico will be old news, unfortunately. And then what's next?
There's a volcano in Bali that's about to erupt. If it goes violently enough, that might shift the news coverage again. And, of course, there's North Korea. What Trump does about that may shut down all other news for some time to come.

(6,594 posts)I am puzzled as to why we would want to show the world this side of us. Focus on the Guns people, focus on PR, let Trump dig his own hole.

(63,922 posts)and the US Virgin Islands should not go by the wayside, they are Americans and they are in need of supplies or getting the supplies to them. They are just sitting on the docks, I mean WTF!!! These are lives here.
Again this shooting spree was done by old white man. Domestic Terrorism I would call it.

(15,805 posts)Don't forget the three and half million Americans who are still languishing and waiting for humanitarian aid and relief that still appears to be inadequate to mean basic life sustaining needs. We still don't know how many people were injured or the number who died, but the likelihood that those numbers will increase as the days drag on, is obvious.
The media is going to spend the next several days focusing on the latest mass murder in Las Vegas, not so much on guns, but the carnage, because that's what brings in the ad revenue. It's not that they can't cover Puerto Rico too, but it's so much easier to get the attention grabbing stories out of Las Vegas than to spend hours hiking up washed out mountain road to show us a rural town that was wiped out leaving hundreds of American with nothing.

(17,485 posts)IMO not harsh enough.
There was very little about PR on the news sites and cable news today. For Las Vegas there is endless speculation and the same interviews and videos repeated over and over. This goes for DU too.
People are still hungry, thirsty, in need of medications, and medical care in PR. Some may still be dying. Attention must be paid to what is going on there. The situation in Las Vegas is not expanding and needed response had been made.
The viewership and clicks determine what the media covers. I want to blame the media, but it is the viewers who would rather fixate on the Vegas shooting than other news.
I'm off to click on every PR link I can find.
