The president dings the hurricane-ravaged U.S. territory for having 'thrown our budget a little out of whack.'
By MATTHEW NUSSBAUM and NOLAN D. MCCASKILL 10/03/2017 05:03 AM EDT Updated 10/03/2017 02:27 PM EDT
President Donald Trump brought a jarring tone to Puerto Rico as he was briefed on the hurricane devastation, appearing to blame the U.S. territory for having thrown our budget a little out of whack and complimenting officials for sustaining only 16 deaths, compared with the much higher human toll of Hurricane Katrina.
I hate to tell you, Puerto Rico, but youve thrown our budget a little out of whack because weve spent a lot of money on Puerto Rico, Trump said Tuesday in his first public remarks from the island, which declared a form of bankruptcy in May. And thats fine.
The president also appeared to boast that the death toll in Puerto Rico pales in comparison to the more than 1,800 fatalities that followed Katrina in 2005.
We saved a lot of lives, said Trump, who added that every death is a horror and broached what he called a real catastrophe in Katrina. Sixteen people versus in the thousands, the president said, overstating Katrinas death toll.
You can be very proud of all of your people, all of our people working together, he told Gov. Ricardo Rosselló. Sixteen versus literally thousands of people. You can be very proud. Everybody around this table and everybody watching can really be very proud of whats taken place in Puerto Rico.

(115,828 posts)1. Trump brings an overwhelming stench to Puerto Rico.
With the hot weather, stagnant water and loss of electrical power, things probably don't smell too great already, but Trump brings with him the unbearable odor of evil. Brimstone and shit. I'm now convinced the guy is Satan.

(10,611 posts)3. He can't help himself. It's who he is.
And the MSM is either being ordered to label him 'presidential' when he isn't outright offensive, or they simply don't care about the hit to their credibility when they try to prop him up and he turns around literally the next day with crap like this.
