It's a business convention.
I'm damn glad she wasn't there two days ago, but Las Vegas is probably the safest city in the U.S. right now.
She has been told that corporate and hotel 'security' has been doubled, whatever that means.

(25,879 posts)Later on this month I'm going to Tucson to visit friends and family, and at the end of the month to Denver for one of my science fiction things.
Interestingly enough, some good friends are going to Las Vegas in about a week as they have a family birthday to celebrate with someone turning 80!

(7,813 posts)Whenever something horrible (like a massacre) happens, everybody is jumpy and watchful for months. She will be fine.
I hope she has a wonderful time! Conventions are not all work and even the work is fun. Nobody would go to them if they weren't.

(3,335 posts)homeowners start seeing a bunch of empty hotel riooms and parking lots and see their investment in their homes and community begin to tank perhaps they will put some fire to their elected officials and make them do something about those laws that have already been passed which they refuse to enforce. Hear that Mr. AG?? Newsweek reported that Nevada gun laws are some of the most relaxed in the country and they let the ban on assault rifles expire. My son lives in Vegas and I spent a long time trying to get a hold of him two days ago to make sure he was safe when I heard about the shooting. Turns out he had been working hard and had fallen asleep early with plans to go out later. I was never so happy to find out that he had fallen asleep early.
Las Vegas last week for a business conference. I arrived Monday night and left Tuesday. I stayed at the Mandalay Bay. I guess Paddock arrived Thursday? I just missed him.
