‘It’s like an implosion’: NBC scrambling to deal with the disaster that is Megyn Kelly
https://www.queerty.com/like-implosion-nbc-scrambling-deal-disaster-megyn-kelly-20171003?utm_source=Queerty+Subscribers&utm_campaign=724c15d2f1-20171003_Queerty_Newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_221c27272a-724c15d2f1-428238173

Question: What’s that terrible, awful, odious stench? Answer: It’s FOX News. And it’s all over Megyn Kelly.

In case you haven’t heard, Kelly’s new NBC morning show, which premiered last week, has been a complete and utter disaster. And insiders say the network is totally freaking out about it.

Kelly’s first week was plagued with all sorts of gaffes and awkward moments. When she wasn’t asking Will & Grace fans if the show is what “turned them gay,” then she was insulting Jane Fonda by asking the Hollywood legend why she’s “not proud to admit” that she’s had plastic surgery.

Oh, then there was that little incident on Friday’s episode when a cameraman accidentally stepped in front of Kelly’s interview with soccer star Carli Lloyd and said “shit!” on the air.

Related: Jane Fonda is all of us as she makes this face at Megyn Kelly

All the while, ratings were tanking. Kelly lost around half a million viewers within the first four episodes. She also managed to garner quite a bit of bad press along the way.

The New York Times called the show “awkward” and “just not enjoyable.” The Los Angeles Times said it was “rocky,” “rough,” and said the chilly reception should be “a worrying sign for a network.”

And let’s not forget The Washington Post, which called Kelly “nervous” and “awkward” and compared watching the show to “watching a network try to assemble its own Bride of Frankenstein, using parts of Ellen DeGeneres, Kelly Ripa and whatever else it can find.”

“It’s like an implosion,” an NBC insider tells Vanity Fair. “Everyone is surprised at how quickly it’s gone badly. People are just like, ‘oh my god.’”

“It’s like watching a slow-motion train wreck,” another insider adds.

“When you think of other cable news networks in the morning and in the evening in particular, they have partisans,” says Zucker. “At CNN, we have personalities. … I don’t think they’re interchangeable, but they are not partisan and that is the big difference, and it’s the reason there’s a lot of running room.” Uhuh.

What an affront to women anywhere...the subtext of that Mika and Joe photo is a microcosm of everything wrong with the objectification of women ...FFS, why not have her throwing panties and room keys at him too?

Megyn Kelly was always a female clone of O'Reilly's Fox News shtick in the first place, she never had the empathy or talent to survive on anything more than titillation and bombast anyway. I hope everyone at NBC responsible for hiring her and inflicting her on the nation in daytime loses their job and is forced to find work in a new industry as a result.

She is put doing a warm and fuzzy show and she is the opposite of that. In addition, she is a racist as mentioned before, but she is also ignorant of many things from being in the Fox bubble. She doesn't know a big chunk of what has really happened in this country from her time at Fox, and what she does think she knows is wrong.

Topping it all off is that she is a liar. I saw one thing, on one of the late night shows where they showed clips of her giving her opinions on a variety of issue from her time on Fox and then the last clip she is attacking someone on air because they do opinions while she is a "journalists who just reports the facts" and doesn't give opinions.

Right now the uninsured are filing FEMA claims and getting the houses "demoed" (wet stuff out). Many are still waiting for $$$. The ones with insurance are filling out inventories (finishing my father-in-laws today) and waiting on the insurance companies to tell us what they are not going to pay for.

I heard a Climatologist on MSNBC say that Jefferson County, Texas (where I live) recorded the world-wide record 64 inches of rain from Harvey. Whew, I wondered since we just seemed to stay in the heaviest bands of rain day-after-day. I have never seen it rain so hard for so long. It got to be that I hated the sound of rain.

We have done this after Rita and Ike so we know the drill. The other shoe to drop that has everyone concerned is how much are our already high rates going to go up. My response is that now is not the time to discuss raising insurance rates!

Thanks for asking, what about where you are?

While both involve "interviewing," they involve totally different styles. A news show does not demand as much charisma. A morning show is more of a performance than it is an interview.

She would probably do better on a news network, such as CNN, where the discussion is usually political and serious.
