(5,914 posts)You see, a solution has to SOLVE EVERY SINGLE INCIDENCE of the problem before it can be put into place. Measures that merely relieve are simply not worth the time/money/effort.
We learned that lesson with requiring seat belts in automobiles. They don't save everyone in a car crash, do they? Hundreds of people still get killed in car wrecks. We might as well just rip the damn things out and save the dough.

(5,914 posts)We can do things to reduce the number of deadly weapons getting into the hands of lunatics without requiring that we solve the problem entirely.
I had to take a blood test to get MARRIED, for crying out loud.

(32,640 posts)And all the public education and programs such as designated driver and free taxis on New Year's Eve haven't made a difference.
"Indeed, one of MADDs great successes wasnt simply convincing the government to change the law, but convincing the public at largeand the law enforcement community in particularthat drunk driving was so dangerous that it should be considered criminal. When police more aggressively pursue drunk drivers and more drunk driving arrests are made, the most dangerous offenders are taken off the road while other drivers have a greater incentive to avoid getting behind the wheel intoxicated."

I assume you also think the same laws against murder, because there are still murders? Does that explain your defense of the Vegas shooter as "maybe being coerced?"

(18,101 posts)not legal products like alcohol or automobiles. Murder is already illegal.

(32,640 posts)And since laws govern people, yes they all regulate behavior of people.
Preventing someone from open carry in a school is addressing behavior.
Requiring someone to safely store their weapon is addressing behavior.
Monitoring purchases of dangerous substances or ammunition is monitoring behavior.
