The GOP, as near as I can tell, is divided into six groups.

1. Evangelicals
2. The wealthy
3. Bigots (not to be confused with the very similar group #1)
4. Libertarians and those who want to tear it all down
5. Gundamentalists
6. People who switch party allegiance every few years due to anger, selfishness or stupidity

Of those, only those in group 6 and not even everyone in that group, might possibly think the GOP cares about them.

Group 1 wants to ban abortion and gays and also turn us into a Christian nation. They want the GOP to enact their beliefs but it does not matter to them if the GOP actually cares about them.

Group 2 simply wants their tax cuts. Their lives revolve around greed and demand fealty for their donations.

Group 3 will back any party or politician who does not oppose them. For now, they back the GOP but only because they want their beliefs enacted.

Group 4 sees the GOP as the tool to accomplish their goals but they don't give a damn if the GOP cares about them.

Group 5 is just like group 2 except substitute guns for money.

That leaves group 6. Some of the people in this group think the GOP will help them, such as those who believed 45's claims that he would bring them better health care. These people and others who think the GOP will improve their lives because the Democrats have not done so immediately (or recently) are the only ones who think the GOP cares about them. I don't consider these people to be rank and file Republicans. They will return to the Democratic fold soon, even if their stay is only temporary.
