He landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day. Fought his way across France, including the Battle of the Bulge. Then on to the concentration camps in Germany. He was so traumatized by what he saw, he was treated for what we now know is PTSD.

Salinger would have recognized moronic evil when he saw it.
