What if the players at Sundays game had been given a heads-up about Pences planned walk-out and agreed ahead of time that no one would take a knee?
Pence would then have had no reason to walk out in a huff except that we all know he was already scheduled to be elsewhere. He then would have had to leave with no excuse as to why underscoring the fact that hed spent taxpayer money to attend a game he never had any intention of staying for.
This whole scheme would have collapsed. There would have been nothing to pretend to be pissed-off about, no faux outrage to be tweeted about and Trumps head would have exploded.

(22,355 posts)And Trump would have found some way to make it look good -- Pence's presence got them to behave, or something.
I find this line of speculation sad; as if once again, white people look for ways to center themselves and their desires in the protests and actions of POC.

(27,814 posts)Of course, Trump would have bragged that everyone was now "behaving themselves" since his edict ... but it still would have left Pence twisting in the wind, trying to explain why he left the game before it started - which he had to do, because he was already scheduled to attend Rohrbacher's fundraiser.
I think people with functioning brains saw through this PR stunt anyway - but some of the low-functioners would be left wondering why Pence wasted their money to attend the game in the first place, when he knew he wasn't able to stay.

What happens if the whole team flips him a big bird and they all kneel? Does he cave in and let them play? Does he force them to forfeit? The mind boggles.

(27,814 posts)Pence is your classic Christian-of-convenience. God's law is always open to re-interpretation when it interferes with a "good Christian's" personal agenda.

(47,953 posts)After the Manning ceremony. I don't think he was so pressed for time he couldn't spare an hour if forced.
But a protest was a near certainty, especially with the players knowing he was in attendance.
