Joe Namath Defends NFL Protest to 'Fox & Friends': 'Look Up the Word Oppression'

by Joe DePaolo | 9:27 am, October 10th, 2017

NFL Hall of Famer Joe Namath is a Fox News regular — frequently stopping by as a guest on many of the network’s programs. But during an appearance Tuesday on Fox & Friends, Broadway Joe did not toe the Fox line while speaking about the NFL protests.

The Super Bowl-winning New York Jets quarterback spoke out in support of the cause of the protests — shining a light on racial and social oppression in the United States.

“[G]oing back to what Colin Kaepernick initially did, it was to point out some injustice that’s being done to the black race,” Namath said. “Or to people that obviously when you look — and I say obviously, some of these dash cams and shootings that were done to unarmed people. He was reaching out to try to get it more investigated. So that’s where this oppression thing comes in.”

Namath was speaking out in response to Hall of Fame former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka — who told Westwood One that there’s been no oppression in the United States in the last 100 years. Broadway Joe strongly disagreed.

Another white guy telling everyone else how it is.... And I'm a white guy. I really wish we would just shut the fuck up for a while and listen.

I remember 'No blacks allowed'. I remember 'white' and 'colored' fountains. I remember my father almost getting fired form his post as a minister because he signed the 'fair housing pledge' that said he would sell his house to anyone, not just 'whites'. I remember Selma and Birmingham Sunday and Freedom Riders.

These are not things that I have read about, these are things that I personally experienced! I remember 'Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever!'. I remember the 101st Airborne being sent to Little Rock to protect nine black High School students integrating Central High School.

And you know what? Mike Ditka is older than I am, so he lived through these same events. So I can only assume either a) he's been drinking the same 'alternative reality cola' that Trump has been drinking, or he's suffering from Alzheimers.

I remember a report (The Daily Show?) about fantasy football and gambling. Cut to Joe on a pre-game show:

Do you have to put money up?
Answer - Yes
Can you lose money?
Answer - Yes
Then it's gambling.

Tried to pick me up at the Atlanta Airport once!

He was quite a charming, tanned dude and I didn’t recognize him, but after I politely told him no, my brother (who was there to actually pick me up 😜 came running up all excited and flustered about the older guy who had just been talking me up! Did I KNOW who that was???

Heh.
Nope.
But he had beautiful eyes.

On point, it was interesting to hear him speak to the buffoons on this show.

15. Actually, he said the owners should have put a stop to the protests.

He wasn't defending the protests, he was agreeing with what the protesters were saying it was about. He also said that the flag deserves more respect than taking a knee.

Watching the video in the link is necessary if you want to really know his thoughts on the issue. The reporter who wrote that didn't do a very good job of informing the reader.

While he described what Kaepernick was doing correctly, he came out AGAINST it.

"We need MORE respect for the flag."

That's what he said. He wants the protests stopped.
