Watch over a hundred college students perfectly shut down Westboro Baptist protesters

By Bil Browning · Monday, October 9, 2017

When the knuckle draggers at Westboro Baptist Church announced they would be protesting at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, they had no idea what they would be facing.

While counter protesters are a common sight at the so-called church’s protests, students at Carnegie kicked it up a notch or twelve. While only four members of the hate group showed up to spout off anti-LGBT/Semitic/everything nonsense, the wet day still brought out a rainbow of counter protesters.

Over a hundred decent human beings faced off with the notorious hatemongers as police kept the groups separate. While common techniques to square off against the hate group members include “sponsoring” them to raise money for charity, surrounding and hiding them from sight with people wearing giant “angel wings,” and simply shouting them down, students and faculty used a different method. They used bagpipes, dancing, and a whole lotta love.

The hate group members “couldn’t handle the rain. They packed up and left early,” according to one attendee. When the group was met with resistance again at a local high school, they left after about an hour.

They're a charming bunch of red-faced, spittle-flecked rage machines, unsurpassed at inflicting emotional and psychological damage on grieving people at their most vulnerable. They show up at memorial services, vigils, and other introspective events to shout hatefulness at people who have just sustained a terrible loss. When grieving people react to their provocation, the Westboro folks have sued them and won judgments, sustaining their mission out of the pockets of the targets of their obnoxious bullying.

I do not know why this seems harmless and silly to you.

Perhaps your own child who was killed in battle? With them carrying signs saying that he or she deserved to die because there are gay people in the US? Signs that say "Thank God for dead soldiers" and "God hates fags" and "Thank God for dead babies?"

This is not just their opinion that they keep to themselves. It is them barging in on people at their most vulnerable with taunts of hate.

Live and let live, my ass. WBC crosses the line regularly.

Not unusual to see pipers on campus. CMU offers a degree in Bagpipe Performance.

And yes, there is a kilt subsidy available.
