Roy Moore has been a household name in Alabama for decades. The good people of the Yellowhammer State elected the far-right theocrat chief justice of their Supreme Court saw him removed from the bench for refusing to respect the rule of law and then elected him chief justice again, ten years later. Moores contempt for homosexuality, and his belief that (his interpretation of) Gods law supersedes the U.S. Constitution, has earned him the devoted support of Alabama Evangelicals.
Luther Strange was appointed to the Senate by the scandal-plagued governor whom he was supposed to be investigating. This is the primary thing that Alabamians know him for.
Last month, 14 percent of the Alabama electorate went to the polls to vote in a run-off of a Republican Senate primary. The candidate with 100 percent name recognition and a politically engaged base that he had built over decades in public life beat the disgraced former governors suspected crony by 10 points.
Incidentally, Steve Bannon stumped for the first candidate, while Donald Trump halfheartedly endorsed the latter.

(82,849 posts)And now that Roy Moore's son got busted (again), this time for hunting under bait, maybe the people of Alabama will decide that Dumbass Moore doesn't really represent Yellowhammer State values, but rather the values of ninnyhammers.

(82,849 posts)But from others' responses, I gather it's a hunting technique where the hunter lures his prey into the killing zone by putting out a salt lick or some such. It's apparently allowed in some places and under certain specific conditions, but where it's prohibited, it's generally seen by hunters as cheating.

(720 posts)and Donald Trump are probably the two worst individuals that I can think of who have been elected to such important positions (assuming Moore wins, and I don't see any reason he won't).

(6,537 posts)Granted, he's no Warrenesque liberal, but he's a decent man. By decent, I mean he was the lawyer who finally put the last man in jail who bombed the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, 1963. Until Jones, law enforcement pretty much tried to bury it. He will probably lose; but, we have to fight the fights we lose until we finally win. Besides, there's more to the story than Alabama voters simply wanting the most whacked out rwnj for their Senator.
