Im glad were having the Harvey Weinstein discussion

The man apparently sexually harassed and abused women for decades. He deserves to be fired and possibly charged- at least 3 women allege they were raped by Weinstein. This isn’t a Dem/Rep issue. Most are condemning him. It’s good if people speak out. Silence allows these predators to get away with it.

That said, I don’t think everyone who ever worked with him or that he donated to deserves to be condemned. There are a few in this story who are victim blaming or who supposedly helped kill stories about his actions years ago- allowing him to continue. I condemn those people.

I’ve seen a fair amount of trying to make this a Democratic Problem. And far too many “ Why hasn’t Hillary spoken out?!?” comments on social media. That said, the issues here do matter, the women coming forward are incredibly brave, Harvey Weinstein is a almost certainly a sexual predator and probably rapist who abused his power. Dems don’t own this. Clinton and Streep don’t own this or owe the world an explaination. If the stories about Damon and Crowe running interference to kill a story about this years ago, they do share a piece of all the damage Weinstein caused from then on.

Feminists have never been silent about these issues, and were often mocked when pointing out rape culture. A part of me would like to think that women have gained just enough respect and power to start making Weinstein’s behavior unacceptable. Because from Trump to Weinstein to Cosby to men who catcall 14 year olds on the street—it’s been accepted with silence if not by complacency. Women with no power only endangered themselves by speaking up, and not believed when they did, men who spoke out were also relentlessly mocked.
