Justin Trudeau: Raise boys as feminists to change culture of sexism

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/oct/11/justin-trudeau-pens-essay-on-raising-feminist-sons-all-of-us-benefit

"Boys need to be raised to be feminists as much as girls because “our sons have the power and the responsibility to change our culture of sexism”, Justin Trudeau, Canada’s prime minister, wrote in an essay published on Wednesday.

Teaching boys to be feminists gives them a sense of justice and empathy and helps them “escape the pressure to be a particular kind of masculine” that is damaging to men and those around them, Trudeau writes. “I want them to be comfortable being themselves, and being feminists – who stand up for what’s right, and who can look themselves in the eye with pride.”
.........

“All of us benefit when women and girls have the same opportunities as men and boys – and it’s on all of us to make that a reality,” he wrote in an essay for Marie Claire magazine. “Our sons have the power and the responsibility to change our culture of sexism.”

Feminism, noted Trudeau, was not just the belief that men and women are equal. “It’s the knowledge that when we are all equal, all of us are more free.”

Trudeau, 45, frequently describes himself as a feminist. After taking power in 2015, he drew global attention by appointing a cabinet with an equal number of men and women. This year his government followed in the footstepsof Sweden in adopting what it called a feminist policy toward foreign aid.

........

The publication of Trudeau’s essay coincided with his visit to Washington DC, where he met with Donald Trump, who has come under heavy criticism for his attitudes toward women. During his campaign to become president, a videotape was released in which he could be heard bragging about groping and having sex with women.

When our Dem mayor had to resign several years ago due to multiple sexual harassment incidents my dad told me, "men are such pigs". I told that to two male friends and they both asked me, "Is he a man?". I was stunned and silent..."of course he is" I replied. He is probably more of a man than half of the so called men on the planet. Way to go Dad and Justin!

How did we end up with such a disaster? I would give anything to have an American Justin Trudeau. Is he or she out there?

is the Head of State. in our parliamentary system, Trudeau is our Prime Minister, who represents a riding (much like your House rep is voted on by his/her district) and is voted on as Prime Minister by his Party (in this case, the Liberal Party). if the Liberals win the most seats in the House of Commons, he becomes Prime Minister -- which he did in 2015.
As for his "friendliness" with Trump, it does him (or us Canucks) absolutely no help in negotiating with Americans, especially as it applies to NAFTA.
Trudeau demonstrates diplomacy on behalf of his country (and probably has spent the last 12 hours or so biting his tongue).

i also think the comments from Trudeau were kind of anti Trump without it being so direct. he is putting out a message or idea which is totally opposite of anything trump stands for.
