The little girl is 10 years old.
Very smart and knows what is going on.
I wonder how other little kids are feeling the same way.
The kid is really upset.
My friend takes care of her because her Mother works at night.
Damn the republicans for doing this to this little girl.
We took her bowling with us.
I am glad I am old lady now.
I told people last holiday season to enjoy it because next year might not be so great.
The little girl is good at bowling, seems to have taken her mind off things.

Maggot is right.
I wonder if he understands what would happen.
Where does he plan to spent his money when world is gone.
You can see the hate in his face more and more.
His eyes are dead eyes.
No soul to them.

(20,577 posts)and Cuban Missile Crisis, kids talk to each other about these things. They gather information from news, parents, other adults, and friends and share it. I bet a lot of kids are scared and it is horrible that trump is doing this to the entire country.
How does a parent paint a positive picture about the use of nuclear weapons? Impossible job.
As someone put it - nuclear weapons were developed as a deterrent to war. Mutually assured destruction serves no one.

(1,588 posts)I never thought I would live to be teenager.
We did not talk about it because we wanted the little girl to have a good time.

(205,360 posts)I thought about this kind of thing when I was at the dentist recently. I've been there frequently lately, had a couple of crowns, took awhile and not that pleasant. And it suddenly dawned on me when I was sitting in the dentist's chair that there wasn't a lot of point in going through this if we're suddenly going to be blown to kingdom come. I was also at the dentist on 9/11...

(30,741 posts)I remember the Cuban Missile Crisis so clearly. I have not been this frightened since then.
Why was 45 talking about rockets when he was talking to truck drivers about the inheritance tax? How does any of that make sense?
Sometimes I think he is just trying to scare everyone and keep us off balance. It is what madmen with power do. It is what narcissists do. At other times, I think he means to take everyone with him if he goes down.
Maybe Ivanka can stop him. Maybe his closest advisers and the generals have a plan. I hope so.
Like some of the other people here, I went to the dentist today. Actually, he is an oral surgeon who is going to remove a tooth and provide an implant. The nurse who took my medical history and blood pressure asked me about my general health. I told her about my stress and anxiety. I told her that I have been drinking more than usual lately. I am far from an alcoholic, but I used to drink only around the holidays. I attributed the anxiety to 45. She told me that they were hearing more and more of that from patients, and she felt the same anxiety as the patients.
I have had a good life. If I die, well all right. We all die. But I want the world to go on after me. The innocent do not deserve to suffer.

(30,540 posts)day I remember. All those nightmares resurfaced after September 11, shows how these things never leave you. Do the best you can to calm her fears, my parents did that and it helped.

(2,948 posts)every time the announcer on tv said we interrupt this program to bring you an important announcement I would freeze and have a panic attack, was positive he was going to say its ww3 and the missiles are on the way.

(15,031 posts)Nixon was incapacitated. History tells us he was drunk. So Kissinger called an audible from JFK's playbook, tried to divert attention from the burgeoning Watergate scandal. Mind, this was just days before the Saturday Night Massacre.
Very few of my friends and family outside the military knew anything about the ramp up to confrontation.
What I learned was simple, and quite eye opening:
"In the nuclear age, the difference between the Home Front and the Front Line is simply a matter of perception: If you know we're at war, you are too."
Ultimately, all we have left is Viktor Frankl's Challenge:
"Since Auschwitz we know what man is capable of. And since Hiroshima we know what is at stake."
Let the children know. Be intelligent and rational in your explanations and try not to let emotion creep into your mien. Teach them well, as we've been advised. There are horrors beyond the nuclear. May the lessons we impart inure us all from fear and give us strength to seek the better paths.
