Top Bush aide to GOP: ‘It’s time to panic’
By Avery Anapol - 10/13/17 08:54 AM EDT

A former aide to President George W. Bush and opinion writer for the Washington Post wrote Friday morning that it’s time for the GOP to “panic” about President Trump’s fitness for office.

Michael Gerson, who served as a deputy assistant and director of speechwriting in the Bush administration, writes that Trump’s personal conflicts with his advisers, aides and lawmakers in his own party should concern leaders that Trump's unfitness to serve as president could do permanent damage to the country.

“It is no longer possible to safely ignore the leaked cries for help coming from within the administration,” Gerson writes. “They reveal a president raging against enemies, obsessed by slights, deeply uninformed and incurious, unable to focus, and subject to destructive whims.”

The president’s feud with Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) has made headlines this month, as have reports that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called Trump a “moron,” that chief of staff John Kelly is frustrated to the point of wanting to leave his post and that Trump “hates everyone in the White House.”

In the op-ed, Gerson railed against the GOP and accused Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) of "bland complacency" in Trump's antics, warning that it is time for elected Republicans to voice their concerns about the president as Corker has.

“The time for whispered criticisms and quiet snickering is over," Gerson writes. "The time for panic and decision is upon us.”

From all indications trumpft has the emotional maturity of a 5 year old. He's not fit for the job and the repubs have known this from day one. trumpft has no expeirience if public service. The gop are the rational ones who are allowing this to continue.

trumpft makes decisions based on petty greviences and revenge and the gop is ok with that.

the gop is ok with people being kicked off healthcare and dying.

The gop is ok with all of this which makes them much much worse than trumpft.

He's got nothing, not even a pair of deuces.

If they shut down gerrymandering in Wisconsin (please-please-please Supreme Court!) Ryan will be out of a job.

That is why they have not act to address the situation. They are waiting as long as possible to the midterms to they can gauge the outcome. If it appears that they will lose the majority or Worse lose a gross majority of their seats then they will act to remove Trump in an attempt to be seen as the saviors of the country. If there is no fear of losing the majority they will do nothing so as to not upset voters. They will view that as support for the administration and will align themselves with the administration. If that happens then be very afraid because it will get a whole lot worse. If that happens Trump will become a despot.

Normally I would say that the Democrats are likely to to take the house and the Senate but then again I thought Clinton was a shoe-in

They might be afraid of Bannon, who's capable of primarying any one of them. However it's still up to us Democrats to run good worthy opponents every time. McConnell got re-elected in 2014 so his term runs until 2020. We have to get the Russian hackers, the "fixed" voting machines and the GOP's voter suppression efforts out before 2020.

Paul Ryan is from seriously gerrymandered Wisconsin, and the SCOTUS may give us some help with that. With a favorable ruling on the Wisconsin gerrymandering case, Ryan would face tougher opposition and could lose his re-election.

If the Democratic Party doesn't offer good candidates to run against these guys, nobody has a reason to vote against Ryan or McConnell or any othe Republican.

Frankly, the people who aided and abetted Bush when he stole the election from Al Gore have a pretty weak leg to stand on. His SCOTUS picks alone helped Trump win. But these people will never own it.

Besides, I'm only interested when a "top Bush aide," or the like, tells them to panic for their jobs and their Congressional majorities. Because that’s the only thing that will cause them to move from being "deeply troubled" to actually doing anything.

Until recent weeks, Drumpf served their purpose: providing daily (hourly?) distractions, while they quietly set about their mission of dismantling all the progressive and moderate changes that President Obama and a short-lived Democratic majority in Congress had accomplished.

So, just now, it's dawning on some of the smarter ones that they have unleashed the orange Golem upon this world and no one is brave enough to remove the shem from the beast's mouth. IF we survive this ordeal, it would serve the GOP bloody-well-right to be decimated. And Drumpf, Paul rAyn and McTurtle deserve to be exiled to an ice floe in the northern Atlantic. Won't happen, but it's fun to imagine it.
