The four fallen soldiers in Niger earlier this month has sparked a ton of controversy, but not in the way that it has in the past. Instead of the media looking into the reasons why these four service men lost their lives, there has been a big debate about how current and former presidents support grieving families of slain service members. This, after President Donald Trump appeared to weaponize consoling grieving families for political gain and started this whole distraction.
Enter S.E. Cupp, who self-identifies as a Republican but occasionally flouts the predictable party line. On last nights episode of HLNs Unfiltered, the show host made a connection about the attacks in Niger that is starting to bubble up that the situation has some significant similarities to the events that unfolded in Benghazi that also left four Americans dead.
Im appalled that today is day 14 and we still dont have basic answers as to what happened, Cupp opened before reminding viewers that on day two of the Benghazi attack every major news outlet was covering multiple angles and Republicans in unison were demanding answers. She then went on to compare the first 14 days that followed the Benghazi attack complete with Susan Rices blaming it on a anti-Muslim movie and Sean Hannity calling out liberal media complicity which stands in stark comparison to where we are with Niger.
After then asking a series of pointed questions that few in anchor chairs have yet asked, she reminded viewers that if you wanted answers about Benghazi, the you should want them about Niger.

FOR THE RECORD: You bet your ass America wants answers. But republicans are in charge of everything, so what we will likely get is lies and diversion. Sad.

(4,723 posts)Republicans are hypocrites, liars, humbugs. Every moment of their vacuous lives, it seems, is spent either lying or robbing the poor to give to the rich. And too often the "librul meda" just lets them get away with it.

(19,066 posts)It would not surprise me at all if Trump sent these soldiers on a mission to somehow enrich himself personally. Like maybe he made an investment and needed to eliminate the competition. Or maybe he needed them to protect an investment he made.

(10,829 posts)was on a similar track last night, pointing out that the whole 'blame Obama' routine for Trump's failure to acknowledge our men's deaths was a sick smokescreen, a diversion to avoid questions about the mission itself: what was the mission/why were our guys there, who were they working with, why did they find themselves surrounded and outgunned?
Cannonfire has a theory this morning that this may have been an American/Russian mission to uncover a cache of stolen Libyan weapons, specifically shoulder missile launchers (Grail launchers) that can bring down helicopters and low flying aircraft (think the Russian plane that was shot down).
We also know that the DOJ put together a standard acknowledgement/condolence statement for Trump to publicly present, something he chose to ignore. Went golfing instead.
Things are unraveling for the Impostor-in-Chief. Just the beginning.

(33,345 posts)I got answers on Benghazi, and I don't have any more.
In Niger, I imagine it goes like this: the Al Qaeda in the Magreb assholes carefully observed the previous patrols conducted through this area and set up an ambush. People got killed, including the embedded Americans.
Only RWNJs need a conspiracy, and this time they don't. There's no Dem in power to hobble in 2020 or 2024.

(82,849 posts)Ms. Cupp will soon be back hewing to the party line after her handlers have a little word with her. I predict this is a momentary aberration.
