Shake-up at Democratic National Committee, Longtime Officials Ousted

WASHINGTON — A shake-up is underway at the Democratic National Committee as several key longtime officials have lost their posts, exposing a still-raw rift in the party and igniting anger among those in its progressive wing who see retaliation for their opposition to DNC Chairman Tom Perez.

The ousters come ahead of the DNC's first meeting, in Las Vegas, Nevada, since Perez took over as chairman with a pledge earlier this year that he would unite the party that had become badly divided during the brutal Bernie Sanders-Hillary Clinton 2016 primary.

Complaints began immediately after party officials saw a list of Perez' appointments to DNC committees and his roster of 75 "at-large" members, who are chosen by the chair.

The removal and demotion of a handful of veteran operatives stood out, as did what critics charge is the over-representation of Clinton-backed members on the Rules and Bylaws Committee, which helps set the terms for the party's presidential primary, though other Sanders and Ellison backers remain represented.

Doesn't really look like that much of a shake-up. Which is good. LiberalFighter Oct 2017 #1

Not that it's nothing, we get interested in this stuff, but hardly a "shakeup." Some new people brought in, some who weren't working out moved out.

Last time I headed anything, I replaced a woman who was quarreling with members of the subcommittee she was heading so that they were threatening to quit and also a very self-important man who insisted on paying nearly $400 for fancy signs instead of the perfectly good, though inexpensive, ones we'd used the year before.

The woman was, btw, a long-timer whose real objection was that she and her old faction from the south end of the country weren't running the entire event (for cause!) so she was trying to sabotage. Not sure she would have called it that, but that would have been the result. The guy was just an ass who didn't understand we served the community, not the organization.

Don't even like to think what NBC would have made of that though. Gardentourgate!!!
