The public really does not give a shit about what happens to veterans. They never supported Vietnam vets, they never really supported Iraq war vets, and they really don't care about our troops in the field. There is no outrage at Trump or the GOP about how they use vets and the flag to exploit veterans. And there is no outrage about vets health care being privatized. A lot of American citizens still believe that old bullshit. "It is a privilege to serve your country. Don't expect help when you are maimed in combat.
In fact too many Americans look at vet care, veterans pensions et al as no more than welfare. Many support Trump and other draft dodgers by voting for them all the time. Hell in fact a lot of veterans support the GOP even as they are denied care. The mess in the VA system can be blamed on the GOP directly.
The GOP is silent about NIger and has said little about Trumps disrespect. The are silent co conspirators. I am a veteran and I would never serve this country again nor help defend a country that is really so hateful now. And I would never defend a Republican nor want to serve with one of these bastards.
Trump's demolition of health care also is killing veterans as well.

(10,602 posts)Right now the GOP wants to privatize the VA system and abolish military pension systems replacing them with a measly 401k you can't get until 59. So what does a combat soldier or other military do when they can retire by 50. You really cannot do combat arms if you are over 45.
