A 10-year-old boy led Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers on a chase reaching 100 mph Thursday morning and authorities say it's not the first time he's taken the family car.
According to police, the boy took the family's vehicle from their home on Hadley Avenue around 9 a.m. His father reported is missing.
Around 9:15 a.m., a driver called to report that the car was being chased by another red vehicle, possibly the boy's mother.
Three Westlake officers tried to stop the boy as he drove through Lorain and Erie counties, sometimes reaching speeds of 96 mph.

(25,556 posts)It sounds like he needs some type of supervision that his parents can't provide him. I had a wild one. Although he didn't steal the car at age 10, he was into some bad stuff. When we were asleep at night, he would sneak out and do drugs. (He was 12) And I was a helicopter mom. He wore me ragged. I had to sleep sometime and when I did, he would sneak out. We tried to devise ways to keep him in the house.
I guess we could have hired ADT and installed close circuit cameras, but that wasn't done back then.
I homeschooled him just to keep him out of trouble.
He ended up getting into more trouble as he got older.
He's a college graduate now. But some kids are just wild.
