Turning to Kratom For Opioid Withdrawal

By Jennifer Clopton

Oct. 26, 2017 -- Eric Mayhew Jr. wanted to break his more than decade-long addiction to opioids -- one that started when his doctor prescribed them for knee pain.

But he didn’t want to do an in-house treatment and tried to detox on his own.

Eric Mayhew Jr. used kratom to help break his opioid addiction. Nothing worked, until 2 years ago when he tried kratom.

“What kratom does is kills your brain’s desire when you are addicted to opiates and you want opiates,” says Mayhew, 37. “It dulls your pain and you start to get your wits back again.”

Now he takes the recommended dose of two to four capsules a day. He says he has had no side effects but admits he still needs his willpower.

I use this stuff of treating mild depression. None of the pharma drugs worked for me and made me feel just damned weird. One, sometimes two capsules a day works wonders. Hear it is also good for pain...

Nothing else has ever worked to treat fibromyalgia for me.

However, it caused the migraines to go insane so I had to stop taking it.

I've been considering trying Kratom for pain. If I do decide to try it, I won't be buying the stuff already in capsules. I'll research legitimate sources and try to buy it by the pound; preferably whole leaves or, most likely powder.

China is putting fentanyl in everything they export. I would steer clear of Kratom coming out of China.

8. I've been buying mine for an online source I've used for a year or so and absolutely trust them.

I do buy the capsules as the stuff tastes nasty but I would never but it locally out of these headshops.

PM me if you want a link to the source I use. Don't want to appear as though I'm shilling for this company.

6. The question of legality...

...is an issue, depending on where you live. It appears that they've been quietly working to legalize it in several states, where it was previously in question.

Right now, it's completely banned in 7 states. In 3 of the legal states, it's banned within two cities and one county. Here's the most recent update list:

Kratom is legal in all states of the USA with the exception of:
Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Sarasota County (Florida), San Diego (California), Jerseyville (Illinois), Tennessee, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin.

I personally know of several people who take it and swear by it. My nephew used it for years and swore by it, but decided to wean himself from it when states started cracking down.

I had considered trying it for pain, but decided not to because of the legal issue. I think I'll reconsider, now that states are trending toward making it legal.
