At Womens Convention, Maxine Waters Among Leaders Reclaiming Our Time
by Donna Owens
Its been 10 months since nearly a million women marched on the National Mall the day after President Donald Trumps inauguration, creating a display of sisterhood that reverberated from the streets of the nations capital, across the country and world.
Beginning Friday in Detroit, the organizers behind the historic Womens March will host their inaugural Womens Convention, aiming to turn that massive demonstration from January 21, 2017, into a sustained, intersectional movement.
Women's March leaders Tamika Mallory, Bob Bland, Linda Sarsour, and Carmen Perez ,working jointly with a network of coordinators and volunteers, have put together a convention which reflects a comprehensive, intentional and inclusive process from grassroots activists, movement leaders, and partner organizations across the country.
The confabs official theme is "Reclaiming Our Time" a nod to Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., whose reclaiming my time remarks went viral after the Congresswoman asserted her authority during a House committee hearing in July. ...................................

(7,681 posts)I mean it was SO important who gets to speak and who doesn't. Thread after thread about it. But now when the convention actually is happening...nothing. There have been threads but they all sank like stones with zero replies. All those people who swore it really wasn't about Sen. You Know Who...they're nowhere to be found.

(36,853 posts)You can watch her speech at the Women's March Facebook page (at @ 1:34): https://www.facebook.com/womensmarchonwash/videos/vb.1338822066131069/1712285198784752/?type=3&theater
I really wish they would post these on YouTube, as well. I don't have a Facebook account, so an annoying "Log In or Create a New Account" message takes up half of the page! Also, we could share them here if they were YouTube videos.

(479 posts)Not talking about Maxine and some other speakers. Just the entire way this conference was organized from the beginning made me lose interest.

(4,098 posts)The conference has been amazing. I have been to 8 or so workshops, none have disappointed. This is about a lot bigger issues than Bernie .
