Today's politicians are now taking money and getting assistance from overseas sources to help with their political campaigns.
Democrats use Christopher Steele, a British intelligence investigator, and the Republicans use Wikileaks and the Russians for opposition research.
This is the natural ending when money becomes paramount in elections and laws and traditions are ignored. Our first President warned us of "foreign entanglements".
Until this is fixed, our political process is tainted. There can be no faith in our electoral system.

(6,855 posts)It's not the fault of American politicians that their opponents engage in overseas corruption, requiring international opposition research. Are we to ignore international money laundering; Trump's hotels outside USA involving bribery of local governments and partnering with convicted criminals? Washington never said we couldn't use friendly foreigners to investgate American fraudsters. Britain is not Russia. Let's not pretend there is no difference vis a vis American interests. Relativism gone amok.

I'll remind you also that we turned our research over to the FBI.
Imo, our political process will always be tainted if messages like this prevail.
