(13,039 posts)We do not control either chamber of the legislature, the executive branch or the court. This is not 1974.
Nor is there a "movement" to organize mass protest as there was back then. In fact, there is little in the way of actual physical community anymore within which such a movement could organize. We can spew venom on twitter, but we aren't, for example, about to conduct an effective general strike or even a sustained series of mass protests.
The best we can do is manage to wrest control of the legislature in 2018, but even then I rather doubt our leaders would do anything to remove the monster from the white house.

(14,076 posts)Rosenstein may quit rather than do that. Of course, then Trump can probably get a flunky to do it. Rosenstein quitting makes it an even bigger deal; but the republican congress will still not impeach Trump; but Trump's presidency clearly becomes invalid at that point.

Mueller is being threatened just by the talk of being fired.
When you let Presidents appoint judges and fire law enforcers its a very risky disaster waiting to happen.

Goldwater and others told him it was over. A deal of was cut. Nixon resigns, Ford will pardon him.
Trump will have to be offered a similar deal.
