Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) once pinned former Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) against a wall and held a knife to his throat during a heated debate about earmarks.
John Boehner told Politico about the incident in a new profile published Sunday. The former speaker described his difficulties in banning earmarks, or measures that funded projects in lawmakers home districts.
Boehner said that Young once pinned him against a wall in the House during an argument over earmarks, and that Young held a 10-inch knife to Boehners throat.
Boehner responded by staring Young in the eyes and saying, F--- you.
Young confirmed the account as mostly true to Politico, but pointed out that he and Boehner later became such good friends that Boehner was the best man at his wedding.
This isnt the first time Young has been reported as brandishing a knife in the House; he reportedly pulled out a knife on the House floor in 1988 when a lawmaker introduced a bill that would have restricted logging in Alaska.

(32,095 posts)He sure does love his knife. A former college professor of mine left academia to head a program in one of the natural resources agencies several years ago. One day, he went to Young's office to discuss some issue. Young pulled out a huge knife, and started sharpening it in front of him. He did it in such a way as to intimidate my professor--or at least try to intimidate him. He wasn't intimidated. Young is a nutbag.

That's not the kind of thing I could forgive or forget. Those assholes never bothered with the thin veneer of civilization. No wonder they are the way they are. They have not progressed beyond wild-eyed nomads of 10,000 years ago.
