Nunes claims there is "absolutely no evidence" that Republicans started the dossier

In an interview on Fox, Devin Nunes claimed:

The whole idea that Republicans started started this dossier — we have absolutely no evidence of that. Republicans did not start the dossier, as far as we can tell.

I'm pretty cynical about the quality of "journalism" on Fox, but even I was surprised when the host let that one go without comment. I really wish I could also say I was surprised to hear a member of Congress make the claim…

5. Am I missing something? How would Russia "start" the dossier??

Isn't the dossier just Steele's compilation of all the stuff Russia has on Trump, including their joint effort to influence the election? Am I missing something, or does Nunes not understand the difference between subject and object?

Did Steele incorporate anything other than his own findings in the dossier?

Because if he didn't, that is technically a true statement, since he was brought in after the DNC took over.

Nune's district is very conservative.
(parts of Tulare,Fresno co.s)
Fairly large hispanic population, though they can be conservative in some respects. Don't know how many vote on a regular basis.

I don't see the farmers voting for a dem, though they have been hurt by Trump policies (labor shortage and trade-TPP would have opened new markets).

Don't know if the district can be flipped. Issa is in a conservative district also and his race was competitive He barely eked out a victory in '16 which was and is heartening, considering this was pre -Trump presidency, though I wonder if this was due to an increase in hispanic voters motivated by Trump's racist b.s. Would love to see that trend continue, but ,as you know, voting drops off in the mid-terms.

18. Of course Nunez is a hack

But he just is repeating what's being passed around by the Republican Fake News Bureau. Republicans use their Fox News and Brietbart, and pass along WigNut FaceBook memes to each other as others use drugs. It's a safe, happy place where they don't have to feel uncomfortable, they get soothing and pleasing reinforcement.

Republican media isn't meant to be news, nor truth. It's used as a drug that feeds an addictive feeling.

20. Nunes just made another similar statement

This one was much softer, but apparently this is going to be a thing for Nunes… On Brian Kilmeade's radio show:

YOU KNOW WHAT, THIS IS A FUN LITTLE POINT. THERE IS ALL THIS TALK ABOUT THE REPUBLICAN, THE SUPPOSED REPUBLICANS, THAT PAID FUSION GPS TO START THIS. I DON'T KNOW IF THAT IS TRUE. IF YOU LOOK AT THE, I MEAN, I DON'T DOUBT THAT REPUBLICANS WOULD HIRE FUSION GPS TO DO OPPOSITION RESEARCH, BUT IF YOU BELIEVE THE WASHINGTON POST STORY ON THIS, THIS GOES BACK TO THE SPRING OF 2016 WHEN HILLARY CAMPAIGN AND THE DNC BEGAN TO PAY FUSION GPS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS DOSSIER AND THIS DOSSIER DIDN'T APPEAR UNTIL THE SUMMER. I DON'T KNOW IF ANY REPUBLICAN HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE ACTUAL DOSSIER. IT'S POSSIBLE REPUBLICANS PAID THEM FOR OPPOSITION RESEARCH BUT I THINK IT IS A STRETCH TO SAY THAT A REPUBLICAN WAS INVOLVED WITH THE DOSSIER.

Sorry about the all caps; that's how it is on Fox's page, and I'm too lazy to fix it.
