If Hillary had won, would we be investigating him and his team right now?
Why or why not?

(52,253 posts)Every single congressional committee would fabricate an excuse to investigate her, plus we'd be trying to govern.
Donnie's crimes? Hah! Any hint at investigating Donnie would just be used as another article of impeachment.

Why? Wouldn't that send a very bad message to Russia?

(42,641 posts)The message that the GOP received was that the Democrats would do nothing, just as Gore did nothing when the SCOTUS selected Bush to be President.

I think Hillary would have realized this.

(42,641 posts)Part of my point, expressed a few times in other posts, is that the leaders of the GOP obviously does not consider that rules apply to their brand of politics and tactics. They will do anything and excuse anything if it leads to them exercising power.

(49,005 posts)Truth comes out. The tRump gang's conspiracy is so big and so amateurish that it would definitely expose itself and get investigated.
The only professionals on their side were the Russians.

If Trump weren't president right now, no one would care about him at all.
However, there would be a serious intelligence community investigation into Putin and Russian activities - to mitigate future threats and also determine suitable countermeasures/sanctions. No doubt Trump campaign activities would be looked at during those investigations, but not with the intent to bring charges.
Putin is the adversary.
The precedent and optics of investigating and indicting a political opponent that lost are less than ideal. Trump is a loser and would be pretty much irrelevant - I'm not sure there would be much of an upside in trying to prosecute him or his team at that point.
The problem with Trump in the White House now is that the investigation and action needed on Russia may not be given the attention and resources it requires.
